This little country stands out in Latin America as a
haven of political stability, freedom and ecological
responsibility. It is blessed with a tremendous
variety of ecosystems and an unprecedented high
percentage of it is given over to national parks.
This is an opportunity to visit three distinctly
different regions of Costa Rica. Over the course of
the week ride through the Rincon de la Vieja
National Park and the ranching region of Guanacaste,
along the beaches and in the jungles of the Nicoya
Peninsula, and through coffee plantations high above
the Central Valley. The terrain is diverse and each
region contains an abundant variety of colorful
birds, plants and animals.

Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica!
You will be met upon arrival at the Liberia
International Airport in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, and
transferred to Rincon de la Vieja and the Hacienda
Guachipilin. During the welcome dinner you will get
to know your fellow riders while your equestrian
guide briefs everyone about the rides and terrain
you will be riding through during the week.
Overnight Hacienda Guachipilin. D
Day 2: Los Chorreas - the Canyon Your first ride
takes you through woods and plains to a beautiful
river canyon. Bring a bathing suit and enjoy
swimming in the crystal clear water at the base of
the waterfalls. The return ride to the lodge leads
through more forest and across several rivers.
Marvel at the first views of the multiple plants,
birds and animals of the thick Costa Rican

Day 3: Rincon de la Vieja National Park Ride
into Rincon de la Vieja National Park which contains
many geothermal features. Take a short walk to view
steam vents and boiling mud pots. Riding a little
further brings you to the warm sulfur springs and a
chance to bathe in the natural hot water pools.
After a picnic lunch, visit the old Casona, a
100-year-old hacienda that is now part of the park’s
ranger station. Ride on to Rio Negro across open
plains that offer many chances to canter. Return to
the lodge via the “enchanted forest”, a shaded area
of thick Strangler Figs and huge old Guanacaste
trees bent and twisted into weird shapes and angles.
BLD
Day 4: La Chacara Farm

crossings. Enjoy a picnic lunch and time to swim in
the pool below the waterfall. A mid-afternoon return
to the hotel allows time for relaxation and beach
combing. Again dinner is at your own expense
tonight. Tango Mar
