Honduras - Copan to the Caribbean
Nature, History, Rainforests and Petroglyphs

Horseback Riding in Honduras
We begin by exploring the world famous Mayan Ruins of Copan, before we take to our horses to explore the surrounding Copan valley, with its mountain forests, rolling fields of maize and tobacco and its picturesque villages and communities. We also spend a lot of time at a working hacienda where we can get involved in daily life and we have the chance to dine on tasty traditional hacienda food.
After a few days in Copan we transfer to Santa Barbara, well known for is coffee plantations and basket weaving products. Then we are off to the Caribbean Coast. Here we ride through the 2nd largest Botanical garden in the world and along the coast to the Los Micos Lagoon.
A journey of lifetime awaits you here in Honduras.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival San Pedro Sula – Transfer to Copan (D)
You will be met at the airport and transferred by road to Copán. En route learn about Mayan trade routes, social and political organization, and theories on their mysterious demise. We will enjoy beautiful countryside as we travel to the picturesque village of Copán. Rest of the afternoon at leisure to enjoy the charming atmosphere of this picturesque town. Welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight Copan Ruins.
Day 2 –Copan (B)
Morning visit to the legendary Archaeological Park of Copán Ruins, which consists of two main sites: the ruins and the sepulchres. Learn about the impressive 63-step stairway with over 2,500 hieroglyphs and masterfully carved Stella. In the afternoon, we will have an introduction to our horses, gear, guide and a chance to take a short ride along the Copan River, good chances for cantering and galloping. Overnight Copan
Day 3 – Copan (B)

We begin our riding transferring to a working 100-year-old Hacienda. Then we will explore the  Hacienda riding through deep oak forest and a rural landscape. Rest stops will be taken at points of interest such as lookout points where we will be able to observe the whole Copan Valley. The ride offers many chances for all types of riding from walking to cantering and gallops. Overnight Copan.

Day 4 - Copan – Santa Barbara (B)

Morning transfer to the town of Trinidad, Santa Barbara. The region around this town is famous for coffee growing, as well as for the hat and basket making of the local Junco palm. Our lodging will be in a Hacienda, and chances to interact with local farm life are possible. The afternoon riding will take us exploring the area and nearby rural towns.

Day 5 – Santa Barbara – Tela (B)
After breakfast, we go riding through the Hacienda’s numerous trails. Coffee, corn and tomato are grown here. In the afternoon, we transfer to the Honduran Caribbean coast. Arrival and overnight in Tela.
Day 6 – Tela (B)

Our horseback riding will take us through the 2nd largest Botanical garden in the world. Lancetilla is home to ornamental, medicinal plants and fruit and hardwood trees from all over the world.  Over 200 bird species have been spotted in this wonderfull nature. We will ride into a small community and enjoy a typical picninc. Return to our hotel in the late afternoon. Rest of the day at leisure to enjoy the beach and caribbean atmosphere of this town. Overnight in Tela.

Day 7 - Tela (B)

Enjoy riding through the Caribbean coast along the Bahia de Tela to the Garifuna community of Miami. This community is located within a protected area of Los Micos Lagoon, the second largest of the country. The Mangrove around the lagoon is home to numerous species of birds and other inhabitants, including howler and white-faced monkeys – “Micos” as they are called in Spanish. Enjoy the charm of this tropical natural spot before ride back to Tela. returning to Tela . Overnight Tela.
Day 8 – Tela – San Pedro Sula (B)
Morning to the San Pedro Sula airport in time for your connecting departure flight. End of services.

Copan:  Hotel Camino Maya, Copán 20 rooms, tourist class category. Located in the picturesque village of Copan Ruins. Restaurant, all rooms with A/C, cable TV and hot water.
