Experience luxurious accommodations and quality horses
at the Montenmedio Country Club, a 900-acre estate located between the
towns of Barbate and Vejer de la Frontera in Cadiz, among centennial cork,
pine and wild olive trees - just 3 miles from the Atlantic coast of
southern Spain. With its sandy trails and pine forests it is the the
perfect terrain for riding excursion to discover the surrounding
mountains, the beaches of the Costa del Luz and the horse and bull
pastures of famous ranchers. You spend your holiday in luxurious 4-star
rooms in the middle of the country estate. Non-riding companions can play
golf on the 18-hole course (among the top 7 courses of the region). The
center offers a luxurious Clubhouse with first class restaurants and an
Olympic size pool. Delicious meals are taken in one of the 3 restaurants.
Most of the ingredients are grown on the estate itself.
There is a dressage and jumping arena, 180x120 ft., an extensive
cross-country-course with fixed jumps, as well as a loping track
surrounding the resort. The estate hosted the World Equestrian Games in
2002 in the disciplines of military and four-drawn carriage. Good Spanish trainers
are on staff for instructions at all levels.
You can learn disciplines in dressage, jumping and cross country. You
choose between English and Spanish tack.
For those that prefer to take relaxing trail rides there are a number of
different trails - from the short 2 hour ride to all day rides with picnic
lunch (riders should have some prior riding experience). There is even an
excursion to the beach available.

Here are examples of the different hacks:
- Ride to the Marismas (marshland) and to the Atlantic coast. Along the
way we stop for brunch. In Barbate we reach the ocean and follow the beach
for miles until we reach Zahara. Picnic and then we ride around the
mountains of Retin to return to Montenmedio around 4 pm.
- Under old oaks we ride across pastures to the mountain chain south of
Montenmedio. We enjoy spectacular views on this 6-hour ride.
- Ride to the Laguna de la Janda passing bulls grazing on large pastures.
- Nature park of Barbate. We ride along the Rio Barbate until we reach
large pine forests. Great canters on sandy trails with picnic.
- Ride to Cape Trafalgar, the cliffs high above the ocean. On our way
there we ride through olive groves and pine forests.
You can go on 3-5 hrs. trail rides daily. Non-riders can come along in the
horse carriage.
Riding clinics:
You can also concentrate on riding instructions during your stay. Some of
the trainers were educated at the Royal Horse School of Jerez and can
teach to a very high Spanish Dressage level. These clinics are very
demanding so we recommend for the novice rider an instruction package with
1 session per day and for more advanced riders 2 sessions per day.
Groups are kept small to 2-3 riders, or you can also reserve individual
lessions.
