A shorter option for those who have already floated the lower Alsek on a Tatshenshini trip or with less time. The cost includes the spectacular helicopter flight out from Turnback Canyon.
Renowned for large rapids, dramatic mountain valleys and glaciers, the Alsek is a wilderness treasure. The Alsek is extraordinarily different from the Tatshenshini which is only "one valley over". Glaciers, icebergs, wildlife, canyons and a helicopter portage around Turnback Canyon add to the adventure.

Our Upper Alsek Expeditions are concentrated shorter adventures into the hearts of Kluane and Tatshenshini-Alsek Wilderness Parks. Waterfalls tumble down mountain walls and the valley is home to lots of grizzlies and mountain goats. Lowell Glacier calves massive icebergs into the water overshadowed by 14,000 foot peaks. The story of how the land is still adapting to the retreat of the glaciers lays spread out before you. There are exciting rapids to raft (or walk around and photograph from shore) with good paddling and hiking opportunities for the more active. Many of our Tatshenshini-Alsek clients return to do the Upper Alsek to complete all three spokes of the watershed.

The six day adventure is designed so travelers from anywhere on the continent can have a fabulous wilderness experience with only one week off work. It's ideal for those who are tight on time or who want to bring more of the family. Although it is a full itinerary, it has one whole day set aside for an incredibly scenic hike overlooking glaciers and floating icebergs.

The eight day adventure covers the same stretch of river but has more time for hiking and enjoying the wilderness. The helicopter flight out from just above Turnback Canyon is a wonderful finale on both the six and eight day adventures.
