What to Bring for The Salkantay Adventure

 
The following items are essential to ensure travelers' comfort and safety:
-Day pack
-Broken-in hiking boots (sneakers are not suitable)
-Hiking pole (recommended. You can borrow hiking sticks with prior notice)
-Full rain gear and poncho (rain jacket, rain pants or gaiters, waterproof boots)
-Lightweight hiking pants (recommended) and shorts
-Gloves
-Fast-wicking and quick to try top and bottom base layers
-Comfortable shoes/ flip-flops
-Cold-weather jacket
-Long-sleeve fleece/sweater
-Woolen hat
-Baseball cap
-Buff/ bandana
-Binoculars
-Headlamp
-Sunglasses
-Comfortable hiking socks
-Sunscreen
-Insect repellent
-Bathing suit
-Casual mountain wear for evenings
-Photo/video cameras and chargers
-Trekking poles
-Refillable water bottle
-Personal medication

Notes
-Any additional clothing and luggage that you will not need on the trek can be stored at your hotel in Cusco
-No hard suitcases or wheeled bags. Soft duffel bags and/or backpacks (You can loan a duffel bag for the trip. Please let us know in advance)

Difficulty Levels Explained
1. Easy
Easy pace and an average-to-sedentary level of fitness. You should be in good health and fit enough for full day of normal sightseeing and walking.
2. Easy to Moderate
An average level of fitness or some experience with the featured activity is recommended.
3. Moderate
Requires you to have performed the featured activity regularly, with some periods on challenging terrain. Activities are mandatory and you may be traveling at high elevations. You need to be in good health and physical condition to enjoy these trips, with adequate muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance.
4. Demanding
You must be extremely physically fit and are expected to hike or ride four to six hours over steep or more rugged terrain.
5. Strenuous
Prolonged hiking/biking on moderate to difficult terrain (five to nine hours a day).
May include high altitude, rugged terrain etc..
