Horseback riding vacations in England

Horse riding vacations in England, Great BritainEngland is a land of many faces – from the pulsing city life of London to the quaint countryside towns of rural England. A country steeped in tradition, England is home to Neolithic Stonehenge, Shakespeare, grand royalty and proud traditions.  Hidden Trails offers a very special Exmoor horse riding vacation, in the moors of southwest England.  Discover Exmoor National Park, with its moorlands, woodlands, ambling streams and coastline – all perfectly suited to horse riding holidays.

Horse Riding in England
Our horse riding vacations are centered around the southwestern counties of Devon and Somerset.  Here lies Exmoor National Park – one of England’s oldest and grandest National Parks.   This former Royal hunting ground is home to stunning landscapes, moors, wooded areas, streams and coastline.  It is perfectly suited to long canters and gallops, or quieter woodland treks.  Within the National Park you may encounter wildlife such as Red Deer, Badgers and Foxes – and of course, the famous wild Exmoor Ponies that inhabit this region. Our Exmoor National Park holiday is aimed at adults, and caters for all riding levels.  Accommodation in a beautiful homely cottage adds to the rural charm.

England Culture
England is a country with rich culture and traditions.  Fiercely royal, England is dotted with palaces, castles and country estates.   The iconic city of London is a popular tourist destination – bursting at the seams with culture, arts, monuments, shopping and nightlife. The traditional university cities of Oxford and Cambridge are also popular destinations. Stonehenge and Shakespeare’s Stratford upon Avon are similarly rewarding. In the north of England the industrial cities of Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester are gritty and lively places, and York and Durham have splendid historical treasures.  Those seeking the rural landscapes of Jane Austen or Lord Tennyson should visit the stunning Lake District or the dales of Yorkshire.

England Climate and Weather
England has a somewhat tongue-in-cheek reputation for being rainy, but visitors will soon discover England can be quite pleasant, especially in the spring and summer. Exmoor has a particularly temperate climate – and is generally wetter and milder than the rest of England. January is the coldest month (temperatures dropping to 1 °C).  July and August are the warmest months with daily maximums around 21°C – perfect for horse riding!
