In the north of England the industrial cities of Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester are gritty and lively places, and York and Durham have splendid historical treasures. Those seeking the rural landscapes of Jane Austen or Lord Tennyson should visit the stunning Lake District or the dales of Yorkshire.
England Climate and Weather
England has a somewhat tongue-in-cheek reputation for being rainy, but visitors will soon discover England can be quite pleasant, especially in the spring and summer. Exmoor has a particularly temperate climate – and is generally wetter and milder than the rest of England. January is the coldest month (temperatures dropping to 1 °C). July and August are the warmest months with daily maximums around 21°C – perfect for horse riding!
