Mendocino Coast Getaway
California
USA
Award winning wine county, seaside villages, beach riding and Redwoods!
Mendocino County in California is known for its spectacular coastline, pretty seaside villages, picturesque vistas, parks, and definitely their award winning regional wines. Most come in via eclectic San Francisco and on your journey to meet us you'll travel through the renowned sprawling wine country vineyards, wide-open meadows and into the towering majestic redwood forests. Soon you'll come upon the spectacular ocean views and charming Victorian villages that dot the scenic Mendocino Coastline of Northern California. Welcome to Mendocino! While riding with us, you will stay in one of the top Mendocino inns, a luxury heritage accommodation, and explore the sandy beaches and ancient Redwood forests on four exhilarating riding days. We can custom tailor the package for any riding level. The horses provided are good quality, well trained and fun to ride and are from the stable of well known professional endurance rider Lari Shea, who is always happy to help with riding tips for out on the trail. The daily rides takes place in the morning and finish in the early afternoon, planned this way to permit you to enjoy your own "happy hour" or add an afternoon of canoeing, biking, beach-combing and/or a full day of wine tasting and touring (wine tours can be added at extra cost or substitute a riding day). The Mendocino wine region begins about 90 miles North of San Francisco in the inland valleys of Mendocino County. Due to the varied terrain and expansive range of micro-climates, Mendocino is able to provide excellent riding trails and produce an impressive variety of grapes that create superior wines. The first vineyards were planted here in the early 1850's, beginning a rich tradition of World Class Wines that continues to this day.
There are also several nice parks with good walking trails within easy (10 minute) drive of Mendocino - great if you want to loosen up your muscles after the riding.

Wine Tour Option:
Not too many people know that there are over 40 wineries and 16,000 acres of vineyards in Mendocino County. Mendocino produces more organic grapes than any other county in the United States. We have selected only the finest wineries of the Anderson Valley to showcase on our tours. One of California’s grape-growing regions with the coolest temperatures, the Anderson Valley is the pathway for the Navarro River to the sea, with vineyards planted from Boonville to just beyond Philo.
Each tour showcases a select group of Mendocino’s premium wineries. Your low-key tour guide will tell you as much as you want to learn about the history and future of viticulture in the Anderson Valley—or you can just kick back and enjoy the view. Our staff has close relationships both with the small family boutique wineries and the top-name estate cellars, affording us access and privileges for our clients that no other company can offer. Let our expert guides show you the best-kept secrets and hidden treasures of California’s Other Wine Country.
This options can be booked with us in advance (pending on availability). We can substitute one of the riding days with the wine tour (no extra charge) or you can book it in addition and extend your stay (extra).

Canter along deserted ocean beaches, ride the bluffs while the Pacific crashes against rocks far below, and meander on mossy trails through the magnificent Redwood forest on this distinctive vacation on Northern California's rugged Mendocino Coast. This is an area of great beauty, rich in wildlife, where time flows at it's own pace; the ghosts of Russian, Spanish and English adventurers tenaciously cling to this isolated part of the world. Lari Shea, winner of dozens of endurance events, including the prestigious Tevis Cup 100 Mile Endurance race, breeds Akhal-Teke, Russian Orlov crosses, and Arabians, many of whom have excelled in dressage and jumping, as well as on competitive endurance trails. Her Appaloosa and Quarter horses round out the stable of wonderfully well-trained horses, for both English and Western style enthusiasts. You won't believe the quality of the horses!
