During the Day
See and taste your way through the city on this adventure packed Lisbon tour. With historic highlights, culinary delights and local interaction, its a unique insight into the heart of this amazing place. Meet an informative, local guide at historic Restauradores Square where a striking obelisk commemorates the restoration of Portugal’s independence back in 1640, after decades of Spanish rule.
Walk past the beautiful Gothic-style Rossio train station, then visit Rossio (Lisbon’s main square) and find out how much the city has changed since the devastating earthquake of 1755. Soak up some Lisbon sightseeing highlights and history while visiting churches and taverns then stop to taste Portuguese cheese and authentic, locally made marmalade.
Continue on to explore the magnetic neighborhood of Mouraria – a melting pot of cultures from far and wide, and a place you wont see on other Lisbon tours! Portugal’s seafaring past has allowed many different cultural influences to contribute to the richness of modern-day Lisbon. Pass small churches, mosques and shops selling goods from far-flung places.
Learn about Fado (Lisbon’s unique music) and walk past the birthplace of the legendary Maria Severa, Fado’s first superstar who used to sing in Lisbon’s taverns many years ago. Our Lisbon tour then satisfies your appetite by stopping at a small, hidden bakery where traditional pastries and espresso coffee will provide a tasty pick-me-up and another insight into the local way of life.

Afterwards, hop on the metro and take a short trip to the Tagus River, the subject of many Portuguese songs and poems. Board a ferry and journey to the picturesque Cacilhas, where Portuguese green wine and freshly-caught seafood awaits! Enjoy magnificent views from the South Bank then return to Lisbon for a slow ride on an old funicular.
Finish the day tour through historic Lisbon by returning to Restauradores Square via Santa Catarina and whimsical Camões Square. Time to relax for a few hours in your local hotel.
During the Evening hours
Around 7 pm we meet again and continue our Lisbon walking tour by joining a local guide at the Praça dos Restauradores square. This famous landmark commemorates the restoration of Portugal’s independence back in 1640 and is an apt starting point for this tour through Lisbon’s musical and culinary heritage. Step back in time and enjoy a short ride on the vintage Tram 28 – a local transport legend. Take in sweeping views of this intoxicating city from the viewpoint of Senhora do Monte and Graça, some of the city’s best-kept secrets. Stop to admire the Sunset while having a refreshing beer at the viewpoint of Graça.
Continue on to visit an ornate church and monastery that are the final resting place of Portugal’s past royalty. Next, travel deep into the soul of Lisbon while exploring the Alfama neighborhood. This is the oldest quarter in the city, dating back to the Moorish occupation of Lisbon. Explore Alfama’s small squares, rustic buildings and dark alleyways as you wander along the winding, cobblestone streets. Stop to breathe in the exciting atmosphere as the local taverns and music venues come to life for another evening of melodic tunes and gastronomic delights.
Stop to reflect on the beauty of the River Tagus then continue on to finish this Lisbon walking tour in a small restaurant that serves up daily doses of delicious food and Fado music to enthusiastic audiences.
Sample traditional Portuguese tapas and wine while appreciating a performance of Fado Vadio (amateur Fado), a quintessential Lisbon experience that you wont get on other Lisbon tours! Finish with a sip of Ginjinha, Lisbon’s trademark liqueur, made from sour cherries and sold as medicine since 1840. What a fitting finale to this indulgent Lisbon walking tour extravaganza!
Your trip will be in a small group of a maximum of 12 people.
Tipping: If you are happy with the services provided by your local guides and drivers a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid Urban Adventures destinations. Please consider this when budgeting for your extra expenses on this tour.
