Introduction
Campania Italy
BIKE & BOAT ON THE TIRRENIAN SEA, THE GULF OF NAPLES AND AMALFI COAST

This is an adventurous journey that will take place both over land and on water, allowing you to discover the natural treasures and cultural heritage spotted along the stunning Amalfi Coast and the beautiful Gulf of Naples. Cruise on board an ancient style gulet, a type of boat that is a legend in itself, just as is the old sea underneath. It is not just a matter of watching and observing, but a truly active journey intended to combine the refreshment of sailing and relaxing in the sun with fun and exciting cycling along the  picturesque narrow streets of Capri, to the foot of the impressive Vesuvio Vulcano near Pompeii, and then onwards to Procida and Ischia Islands, ending the tour in spectacular Sorrento. The Altinlar, the
caique sailboat you will ride the seas on, was substantially renovated in 2007. The bathrooms were redone further in 2009 to complete the new essence of the 24 m long and 6,20 m wide ship. All cabins are simple but functional and comfortable, furnished with a French bed, a small wardrobe with space to place bags and luggage (please exclude rigidly styled luggage on this trip). All cabins have little windows that can be opened and also have air-conditioning within. Outside there are 2 decks: one is on the anterior part and has a big solarium with mattresses for all guests. The back deck is covered and has a table for breakfasts and dinners. Onboard catering is our pride, it is the result of much cultural research, suggested by the old seaside villages of near. Carpaccio, fresh seafood and vegetables, pasta, meat and the herbs of the Mediterranean scrubs of Campania, are the absolutes on our table. Guided tour with English and Italian speaking guide.

Day 2: Cycle Trip to Pompeii (14 km)

Cycle to Pompeii and a visit of Pompeii and the Villa dei Misteri. It is the biggest open-air archaeological site of the world. Visit of Sorrento and departure along Sorrento coast. You cross “Passo San Pietro” (St. Peter’s pass) and you enter in the Amalfi coast, where you will cycle along the wonderful road overlooking the sea up to Positano. Its colorful houses have been built in amphitheatre shape, overlooking the sea, giving a unique and picturesque aspect to the village. After Positano you continue towards Amalfi, the most powerful Mariner Republic at the end of X century. We suggest the visits to the cloister of Paradise and the church and a walk along the main street that is connected with many narrow streets between white fisherman’s houses. Return to the gullet and overnight in Amalfi.

Day 4: Amalfi – Minori – Cetara – Vietri – Salerno (24 km) + alternative Ravello (35 km)

From Amalfi you continue your cycle tour along the coast, cycling on a street with some ups and downs overlooking the sea, crossing the villages of Minori, Maiori and Cetara. It is possible to make a deviation and go up towards Ravello, where in the placid beauty of the main square, the Dome dedicated to Saint Pantaleone stands out. The blood of the Saint liquefies every year on 27th July. From the village dominating the sea from 300 mt. Above sea level, you can enjoy a view beyond the Gulf of Salerno and up to the Cilento mountains. We suggest a visit to Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo, whose architecture (a mélange of Arab, Sicilian and Norman style) was an inspiration for Wagner. You return on the road along the coast to finally reach Vietri and Salerno. You come back to the gulet. Overnight in Salerno.

Day 5: Capri

The day starts with a sailing up to Capri. We will have some breaks during the sailing to take a bath and to admire the Amalfi coast from the sea. Arrival in Capri during the morning, disembarkation in Marina Grande, our arrival port. You visit the Island on foot, you reach the village of Capri with its famous “piazzetta”. Possibility to visit the “Grotta Azzurra”. From above the cliff you can enjoy a wonderful panorama on the Gulf of Naples dominated by the Vesuvius. After the visit you come back to the gulet. In the afternoon we reach again the caique and we sail up to Marina di Castellammare di Stabia (in alternative, we reach Castellammare with public means). Overnight in the Marina of Castellammare di Stabia.

Day 8: departure

Disembarkation at 09.00. End of the services

Bikes:  We can provide city bikes with 21 gears.

(it is not possible to have it in advance). The guide will give you the maps on arrival and you have to give them back at the end of the tour. The daily program is subject to the weather conditions. Some changes are possible and the guide will show you the itinerary day per day. You can always decide to either take part in the cycling with the group or do it individually or stay on board and relax if you have sore muscles!
STAY ON BOARD You can decide to stay on board and skip the cycling stage, but respecting the necessities of the captain and the movements of the boat. It is not possible to give you an exact timetable of this movement. The guide and the captain will inform you on board.

NOTE: during the nights of the tour the boat will be docked in the port during 5 nights. The other 2 nights the ship will stay anchored in roadstead. The roadstead is a place outside the harbor where the ship can lie at anchor. It is an enclosed area with an opening to the sea. Natural roadsteads offer shelter from storms, winds and currents, and are frequently used for naval bases.
In exceptional cases (unfavorable meteorological and/or sea conditions), for safety reasons, the ship must return in the port also during the nights that are scheduled in roadstead.
Only and exclusively in this case, the clients will be asked to pay the relative price for the stay in the port. This amount, variable from port to port, will be divided among all the participants of the tour and will be paid directly on site (approximately from 20 to 50€ per person per night, subject to changes).

We reserve the right to make alterations to the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions or organizational requirements.
