Enjoyed the most

The host's hospitality has to be the most standout part of our trip. The rides were great, but it was also lovely to share a meal and talk about horses, farrier work, carriage driving, you name it...

Bothered you

I wish it hadn't been quite so warm..heat wave was a bit uncomfortable. Nothing anyone could do about that part!

Comments

I was very pleased with the variety and quality of the horses at the Ranch. The owners are incredible hosts, very warm and welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. They let us ride as much as we liked, and even let us do a carriage day trip one day.

Michael Fenster 7/3/2010

Enjoyed the most:  I felt like I was part of the family, not just a guest.

Bothered you: Riding with the family's friends whose horses were not up to the long rides.

Melanie Leinbach 7/3/2010

Comments: The horses were so well-trained and healthy. The trails were beautiful. And our hostess was an awesome horsewoman and a lovely person.

Linda Fath 6/16/2010

Enjoyed the most: The horses, hospitality and tremendous views.

Bothered you: Nothing that could be helped. We went during tick season and had to watch out for them. But nothing bothered us that was within the control of the Ranch.

Comments: Anyone who likes to ride gaited horses should do this trip at least once. I'm a Summa Cum Laude person, and have been a manager for many years. I have very high expectations in general and want everything perfect (ask my husband--LOL!). My expectations were exceeded on this trip!  My favorite horse vacation so far!!!  The owner herself is personally involved with every aspect of the vacation and is extremely knowledgeable and personable.  Loved the horses so much we bought two!!

Cheryl Whiteley 11/5/2009

Enjoyed the most: The riding.... the scenery.... the overall excellance of the ranch, absolutely a beautiful place to be. The first time in a long time, a truly relaxing vacation. The first trip since my husband died. Was a little concerned about that, but the ranch-horses-owners-were all truly great. I LOVED THE GAITED HORSES!!!!

Bothered you: Nothing, it was truly great. Even the rainy weather was fine with me.

Comments: IT WAS GREAT.  I didn't go for the food, I went to ride! and that was really great.  As this was my first trip like this, I had no 'great' expectations.  It was simply a great trip.. Had no idea gaited horses were so great to ride.  The ranch was fantastic. Would go back again with some other friends too.

Sharyn Klimko 11/2/2009

Enjoyed the most: The scenery

Bothered you: The rain

Comments: Tonya has a very nice place, she was an excellent host and her horses were great.

Marilyn Long 10/5/2009

Enjoyed the most: The camaraderie with Tanya, the hostess, and the Fabulous Foxtrotters! I fell madly in love with every one of them. And sitting on the front porch glider and relaxing...

Bothered you: Leaving that wonderful ranch with its solitude, peace and contentment!!!! I also wanted to bring one of the horses home with me!

Comments: I'd recommend this particular ride to all horse people and even to ones who aren't experienced. The Foxtrotter gives a lovely smooth ride that's easier on older bodies! If anyone is looking for the perfect riding vacation, this place is IT!!!!

Deborah Sofia 10/5/2009

Enjoyed the most: THE HORSES

Bothered you: NOTHING

Comments: Tanya and Roy were excellent hosts and their horses were exceptional. I was totally spoiled and relaxed so much that I still haven't gotten back into the work mode yet (and it's been two weeks). My expectations were exceeded. Thank you!

Susan Wester 5/24/2009

Enjoyed the most:
There are so many good things: Tanya and Roy (hosts), horses, cabin for guests, pastoral setting, and of course terrific trail rides through beautiful country.

Bothered you:
We had difficulty getting evening meals together, as only 2 evening meals are provided by the hosts. Often we didn't get back from riding in time to get to the store or a restaurant before it closed. Would recommend other riders plan a menu for the week and buy all the groceries they will need upon arrival (they have a little kitchen in the cabin where you are welcome to make your own meals).

Comments:
This was a wonderful trip that I highly recommend for other riders.
I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but this was better than I expected.

Mary Ann McLaughlin 10/7/2008

Enjoyed the most: Going out to eat at local restraunts. Tanya and Roy were wonderful hosts. Meeting and peting the camels.

Bothered you: Nothing

Comments: Everything was fabulous.  One of the best rides. I loved staying at one place the entire week.  Changing accomodations is a pain in the ass! I could stay unpacked the entire week. It was above and beyond my expectations!

jennifer mcclain 9/26/2008

Enjoyed the most: Excellent horses and weather.

Bothered you: The guide talked mostly about every dog and horse she had ever owned. I personally would have preferred more history, flora, fauna, and geology of the area.

Debra Schroeder 5/27/2008

Enjoyed the most: The hostess was most accomodating and sincerely enjoyed riding with us. Tanya took us on many extended rides and tailored the pace perfectly. We had the trip of our life.

Bothered you: The weather!!

Karen Grueneberg 5/10/2008

Enjoyed the most: Horses, hospitality, ranch, hosts

Bothered you: Too much rain!

Comments: Absolutely recommendable trip!

Allyson Sweat 10/3/2007

Enjoyed the most: The variety of trails and the interesting things to see - we never seemed to be on the same trail twice and the visit to Fran's house to see all the "exotic" animals was quite a treat!

Bothered you: Nothing bothered me except that the week seemed to pass too fast. :)

Comments: I would highly recommend this ride to people with any level of riding experience. Tanya has horses that anyone can ride and enjoy.  Tanya and Roy were excellent hosts, and the accommodations and horses were first class! It was an enjoyable week full of riding, beautiful scenery, and very nice people.  This trip exceeded my expectations!  The schedule was full, yet there were still times to relax and enjoy my time "away from it all".  Being a party of one, it was like everything went at my pace, yet Tanya and Roy gave me the full treatment complete with campfires and a hay ride.

Stephen Morishige 3/15/2007

Enjoyed the most: The trails were interesting.

Bothered you: Not enough cantering for me.

Berneice Brownell 3/14/2007

Enjoyed the most: The excellent horses and the hosts.

Bothered you: I would have liked to spend more time at a faster pace.

Susan finkelstein 11/11/2005

Enjoyed the most: Tnya & Roy's sincere hospitality, hard-working nature (which I admire and respect) and their personalities were something that is usually hard to come by. They treated me like "family" as opposed to just a guest at their ranch and home. I would be lying if I didnt say that the beauty of their land, as witnessed in the saddle of their marvelous FoxTrotters, was more than I had expected or even thought possible. This is not my first "equestrian trip" but it certainly was the most enjoyable.

Bothered you: Ging back home! I should have booked a longer trip, more than just several days!

Comments: Tanya & Roy have a very beautiful home on their spectacular ranch, in a sweet little town called Bourbon.  Their hospitality and desire to make me feel "like family" was evident in everything they did.  The log cabin I was in was perfect and could not have been nicer or more comfortable.  Breakfast and lunch was in the spirit of the south and kept me filled during the hours of (fantastic!) horseback riding.  I have never ridden a Missouri FoxTrotter before and now I am completely hooked on them!  If I had any type of horse to ride, it would only be a Missouri FoxTrotter!  My expectations were definitely surpassed.
Thank you, Tanya & Roy, for a most wonderful few days; I hope to see you again next spring and next fall, if not sooner.

Greg P. Szelung 9/29/2003

Enjoyed the most: First, Tanya, Roy, Carol, and Anna - just really nice people. Second, the horses. I rode Lucky for most of the week. We got along good. Third, the food, of course. There was alot of work behind the scenes to feed this large group of people.

Bothered you: I am not used to living in another person's house. I sometimes felt that I inconveniencing them.

Laura Leahy 10/3/2002

Enjoyed the most: The comradery, the panaroma, the relaxed pace

Bothered you: Nothing really. I would have preferred only non smoking acomodations but that was only a minor inconvenience.

We haven't stopped talking about this unbelievable vacation. It was the best trip we've ever been on.

Jimmie and Sue Jablonski 7/10/2001

Enjoyed the most: Our Hosts. Carol and Tany , fantastic. Horse and coutryside beautiful

Bothered you: If anything being picky .. could have wanted a private bathroom at one of the places we stayed.

Darlene Bigham 6/28/2001

Enjoyed the most: I enjoyed riding in the Ozarks and especially the Fox trotting horses. They have a great gait and make going distances a dream. Carol allowed us to ride at our own speed and treat the horses like they were our own. She insisted the first few days that we trade horses alot so we could see the differences and everyone found a horse that they liked. We even got to ride her Missouri mule which was fun.

Bothered you: We were not expected to help with the horses. It made me feel left out not to have to take care of the horse I was to ride.
