We then drive a few miles south of Moab to the Potash boat ramp on the Colorado River, load the boats and head down stream. Once on the Colorado River, you will receive a river orientation and meet your other guides and fellows guests. Within a short time we enter the spectacular landscape of Canyonlands National Park. Today is a lazy day on the river and you soon adjust to the relaxed pace. You’ll stop to hike as well as for lunch. Later in the day you will pass Dead Horse Point State Park where “Mission: Impossible 2” and “Thelma and Louise” were filmed. Camps are on sandy beaches. The supply raft arrives at camp and creates a river lounge, restaurant and tent bungalows. Our professional river Chef begins the evening’s dining presentation. Enjoy a cool beverage on the riverbank in comfortable camp chairs. You’ll dine at sunset at linen clad tables. Days 3 and 4 We depart every morning after a healthy hot breakfast. Camp attendants will take down the camp (including your tent bungalow) and off we go on the day’s adventure. These first few days provide opportunities for extraordinary exploration. Some of the spectacular hikes may include Native American Ruins at Lathrup, a spring time waterfall at Indian Creek, and/or to the top of the Loop where the river takes a four mile bend onto itself enabling you to see both sides from 1,000 feet up! By the end of the third day, you will sense the anticipation of the group rising as the rapids near. On the afternoon of day 3 you will pass the confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers. Here the Colorado doubles in size and force. This day you will get a chance to run a couple of smaller rapids before camp. Day 5 After a healthy breakfast the guides take time to teach you how to enjoy the big rapids safely. Then the fun really begins. You will encounter rapids with names like Capsize, North Sea’s, Little Niagara, Satan’s Gut and Ben Hurt. As you continue downstream the rapids become more intense until you enter the Big Drops the steepest descent on the Colorado River. You complete the day’s run and relax on a sandy beach to recount the excitement. Traditionally, the last night of the river trip is “dress-up” night. Anything goes if you would like to participate. It is up to your imagination! This is a great way to celebrate the trip and near completion of your Mighty Colorado River adventure. Day 6 After the whitewater, the Colorado River forces its way into Lake Powell and we motor off of the lake. On the last day we will view 2,000-foot cliffs and explore some lost side canyons no longer under Lake Powell. Once we arrive at the take out, you will be escorted up to a landing strip for the return flight to Moab. This is no ordinary flight back; this is a scenic flight over Canyonlands National Park and the river you just rafted ~ the perfect end to the perfect vacation. We’ll meet you at the airport and drive back to Moab where you will arrive at the hotel by 6:30-7:00 PM (MDT). Overnight at the Gozo Inn. Day 7 Departure

If you take medication you should bring a good supply and inform your guide of all medication that you are taking. When you meet your guide you should discretely explain any medical conditions you may have or be concerned about including allergies to bee stings, etc. Each guide carries a first aid kit and will need to know if specific medicines should be stored. Pregnant women and anyone with heart trouble should have their physician’s approval before taking a river trip.
History
In the 1930’s, the Grand Canyon extended 550 miles from Moab to Lake
Mead. In the 1960’s Glen Canyon Dam formed Lake Powell, and Cataract
Canyon was separated from the Grand Canyon. This 100 mile stretch of the
Colorado River, south of Moab, has some of the most colorful and
interesting river history on the entire Colorado River.
Cataract Canyon became part of Canyonlands National Park in 1964.
There are numerous secluded Ancient Pueblo sites along the river. You
will get a chance to ponder the disappearance of these ancient peoples
while exploring their 800 year old dwellings.
Major John Wesley Powell named Cataract Canyon after his monumental
1869 expedition down the Green and Colorado Rivers. You will get a
chance to see inscriptions that he and other early river runners left
behind while navigating Cataract’s challenging rapids.
Canyonlands is also home of many legendary outlaw hideouts. One of
the most famous is Robber’s Roost where Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch
would lay low between robberies.
Geology
There are numerous secluded geological sites along the river.
Cataract Canyon is a geologist's paradise. You will see 300 million
years of rock history in a glance. Throughout time the river has sliced
through this rock and left it exposed for all to see. These
multi-colored layers of rock sparkle in the warm Utah sun, creating
spectacular sunsets and photos.
Wildlife
The canyon hosts an extraordinary diversity of plants and animals
that live in many climatic environments. Wildlife is abundant in this
region, though often shy. One of the West’s largest herds of Desert Big
Horn Sheep resides in the canyon. During the heat of the day lizards sun
themselves while eagles, vultures, ravens, and hawks soar on thermal
airstreams along the canyon walls. In the morning and evening, deer,
muskrat, beaver, coyote and the great blue heron move along the river's
edge.
Group Size
We believe in protecting the environment and enhancing your
vacation. This is why we rarely do trips larger than 25 people. Most of
our trips are 10-15 people in size. On our multi-day trips there will
never be more than 5 guests on each oarboat. With small groups you will
get the attention you deserve and the chance to know all the guides and
other guests.
Our Guides
Our guides are professional, exceptional people with outstanding
talents, who are eager to share their knowledge, experience, and
enjoyment of life in the outdoors. They continually strive to perfect
their understanding of our wilderness and its secrets. This is their way
of life, and their passion is to share this adventurous way of life
with you.
Our guides’ objective is to help you have fun. However, you can rest
assured that your safety is their top priority and you will observe
this in their behavior as well as their expectations of you. They are
Red Cross First Aid and CPR certified, and have completed river rescue
training. They are required to complete hours of training on each river
stretch before they can “guide” our guests. If you are like most people,
you will marvel at the quality of their work, while feeling as if you
have just made a new friend.
Passport and Visa Requirements:
Valid passport required by all nationals referred to in the chart ; validity varies - for most countries the passport must be valid for at least six months from the date on which the holder enters the. more
You can expect warm, sunny, delightful days in Southeastern Utah. In April through June, high temperatures range between 70 and 90. July and August high temperatures typically range between 90 and 100, with September and October temperatures ranging between 70 and 80. The climate here is very dry with little humidity and not oppressively sweltering. Summer evenings are quite comfortable though cool in spring and fall. Other than an occasional rain cloud, there are few overcast days.

Suitability If you are of an adventurous spirit and in reasonably good health, you should have no problem enjoying any of our trips. It’s not necessary to be an athlete to participate in a river expedition. It is several hours to the nearest medical center, however. It’s also helpful to know about other health issues when planning activities for the day.
