During the first days of this adventure we ride through enchanting pine forests of the Province Soria, enjoying the spectacular canyon scenery of the nature park and bird sanctuary “El Cañón del Río Lobos”. The journey continues, conquering mountains high up to 2,300 meters of altitude where breathtaking panoramic views will be more than a reward! This challenging ride enjoys various highlights, always accompanied by our very experienced guide and the horses, our loyal companions.

Day 1: Arrival Day – Madrid - San Leonardo de Yagüe
Riders arrive at the airport in Madrid from where you will be picked up and transferred to San Leonardo de Yagüe, located in the Province of Soria. We will stay the first two nights as well as the last night of our trip in a nice 4*-hotel in this charming medieval town. After checking into our hotel and settling in, we gather together and enjoy a delicious welcome dinner.
Day 2: San Leonardo de Yagüe – El Cañón del Río Lobos - San Leonardo de Yagüe
After a nice breakfast, we meet our horses and start our journey on horseback. We leave San Leonardo de Yagüe behind and ride through enchanting pine forests until we reach the magnificent nature park and bird sanctuary “El Cañón del Río Lobos”. Declared as a Natural Park in 1985, it was one of the first protected zones in the autonomous community of Castile and León. The canyon and surrounding areas with its spectacular relief is considered one of the most beautiful spots in Spain. Here you can enjoy terrific canyon scenery with hundreds of vultures circling above you in the sky.
After a savory lunch on the “Bridge of the Seven Eyes” we head back to San Leonardo de Yagüe, tired but happy after the first day in the saddle.
Day 3: San Leonardo de Yagüe - Quintanar de la Sierra
After a hearty breakfast, we head towards our next destination, the charming town of Quintanar de la Sierra, located in the Province of Burgos. This beautiful trail leads us through enormous pine forests and we will also pass by the medieval necropolis of Revenga.
We pause next to a small to a small chapel, where we relax and enjoy our picnic-lunch and a panoramic view before continuing our journey until we reach Quintanar de la Sierra. Known for its natural beauty and surrounded by the largest pine, oak and beech forests in Spain, Quintanar de la Sierra, is a perfect place to relax body and soul after a day on horseback.
Day 4: Quintanar de la Sierra - Neila
We continue our adventure on horseback, leaving Quintanar de la Sierra (located at 1,150 meters above sea level) behind. We follow mountain roads, steadily ascending, until we arrive at the Natural Park “Lagunas de Neila” around noon. The Natural Park is located at an altitude of 2,046 meters, and present a series of five lakes formed in a cirque glacier. Surrounded by mountain scenery, we relax and enjoy our lunch. After lunch we ride through stunning landscape, dominated by mountains and vigorous forest until we small mountain village Neila. This picturesque village, which is the last village in the province of Burgos before reaching the province of La Rioja, is considered by its inhabitants as the perfect combination of landscape, air, water, life and love! We enjoy a delicious dinner at the Hotel Villa de Neila.
Day 5: Neila – Laguna Negra de Soria
On this day the very challenging ride leads us through the high mountains of the Sierra de Neila, passing by stunning landscape. Starting in Neila at an altitude of 1,175 meters, we ride steadily upwards until we reach the top of the mountain “Tres Provincias”, at an altitude of 2,049 meters. The mountain divides the provinces of Burgos, Soria and La Rioja, and its breathtaking view is more than a reward for the effort of the climb. We continue along a rope to the summit of “El Urión” (2,229 meters), where the river “Rio Duero” originates. Afterwards we head slowly back down to the Laguna Negra Natural Park (1,740 meters). This ‘black’ glacier lake is known for its beauty and is shrouded in legends. We enjoy a picnic-lunch on the way, while dinner will be served in the restaurant “Pase de la Serrá”. You have choice to stay either in a bivouac or at a country house for overnight. .
Day 6: Laguna Negra de Soria – Molinos de Duero
With a heavy heart we leave the spectacular beauty of the past few days behind and climb along the river “Rio Revinuesa” down to the town of Vinuesa, where we enjoy a delicious lunch. After lunch we cross the bank dam “La Cuerda del Pozo” and finally reach the town of Molinos de Duero, where you spend the night at the charming “Hotel La Reserva”.
Day 7: Molinos de Duero – San Leonardo de Yagüe
Our last ride leads us through pine forest of the regional nature preserve “Reserva de Caza Urbión and brings us back to the starting point of our horseback tour. Here in San Leonardo de Yagüe we say goodbye to the horses and enjoy a farewell-dinner with the group.
Day 8: San Leonardo de Yagüe - Madrid
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Madrid. (B)

The
overall climate of Castillia is similar to Southern California: hot in
the summer, pleasant and moderate in the spring and fall, and fairly
cool in the winter. Rain is possible anytime, but rare in summer. The
main rainy season is from the end of October to the beginning of May.

Rain gear suitable for riding should be carried along, particularly during the months from November through April.
A belt pack in which to carry your camera and other small valuables during the ride is handy.
Attire is strictly informal throughout, though if
you are planning to visit other cities on your own later you may wish to
bring a jacket and tie. Regular film can be obtained locally, but
special sizes may not be available-bring plenty. It is a good idea to
bring your own soap, since not all hotels supply it.
Also, please bring comfortable walking
boots as you have to walk with the horses downhill on a rocky surface on
the second day for at least one hour.

Most nights are in traditional and typical small hotels in wonderful settings.
The picnics are all well prepared with all the trimmings. Dinners are in local restaurants with delicious local menus. A medieval style banquet ends this first week on the tracks of “El Cid”.
