Share the life of a working cowboy, taking care of a
thousand head of cattle on their summer range. Every day is different,
it depends on the condition of the cattle and the time of year. This
hands on cowboy vacation is second to none. The upper ranch is where we
spend our summers, June through September. The ranch is nestled at the
head of Warm Creek, bordered by several thousand acres of BLM and
Targhee National Forest Lands. You will be up where the cattle spend
their summer. We will spend 6 to 8 hours a day in the saddle. There is
always a lot of riding and cowboy work to be done. We always find a nice
spot for lunch and take an hour rest from the riding. After a great day
of riding, we head back to the ranch for a big cowboy dinner and great
campfire stories and entertainment around the campfire.

don’t worry, your accommodations are simple yet very nice, you will have
everything you need: a cook cabin for eating and relaxing, a cozy
bunkhouse room or cabin for sleeping in. We carefully match horse and
rider and make sure everyone feels comfortable with their horse and
tack.
A typical day begins with a great cowboy style breakfast of pancakes,
bacon, eggs and hash browns. At the Ranch, we pack a lunch with us
everyday and then head out on the range for a day of rounding up and
moving cattle, roping and doctoring the sick calves and riding and
looking for stray cattle.
Everyday is an adventure! We always tell our guest, if there is
something that you have ever dreamed of doing on a ranch vacation,
please tell us and we will do all we can to make your dreams come true.
The country and landscape around the ranch varies from 6,000 to 10,000
feet in elevation. We have so much beautiful country to ride in and
explore. Beautiful high mountain lakes, snow capped mountains and
abundant wildlife. You won't just be spending a week on a great cowboy
vacation, you will be spending a week in some of the most beautiful
country Idaho and Montana has to offer.
Let the ranch family and crew help make your cowboy dreams come true! We
hope to see you at our camp this summer! We will leave the lantern on!

Colt Starting:
Come and learn to start colts “the cowboy way”. Each ranch week also
includes an introduction to colt starting techniques ..... We will work and ride daily out
of the ranch at Warm Creek. It is located at the head of Medicine Lodge
Canyon, only a few miles from the Idaho-Montana border and Continental
Divide. Daily rides into the Targhee National Forest are all part of the
young horses’ training.
The round coral is an important part of that training, but only in
the beginning. These colts will earn their living out in the cow country
of Idaho and Montana. So that is where we want to get them. The colts
are handled quietly, getting used to people, ropes, saddle blankets, and
saddles. Lynn is not a new comer to starting colts. He has started colts
for the last 20 years. The past 8 years traveling to Europe, putting on
colt starting clinics. This is guaranteed to be the experience of a
lifetime, with only a few dates offered this year. This is a great week
to combine with our “Horse Drive
Week” and our “Back Country Pack
Trip Week”.
