Kid's Program

For Children and Teens

Kids horseback riding at The Home Ranch love Western ranch vacations! Big summer fun, healthy outdoor activities, excellent food, kid-friendly horses and wranglers, literally at your doorstep when you make your all-inclusive summer vacation at The Home Ranch. A family-friendly vacation at The Home Ranch requires no advance planning, no childcare arrangements, no dinner planning, and no stress. We take care of everything.

Dedicated kid counselors offer a wide menu of daily activities and adventure for kids and teens.  The whole family can relax, unwind, do what they want, when they want.   Our counselors are available to keep your kids occupied and entertained every day of the week, from 8:30 in the morning until 9:00 at night.

Every family member gets their very own horse for the week. With one million acres of National Forest and Wilderness in our backyard, and 75 horses in our herd, there is more than enough space and opportunity for everyone in your family to roam, ramble, ride and play.

Children 6-12 Schedule
Following dinner Sunday evening, the children at The Home Ranch begin their week with a S’mores party around the campfire where they play name games, and become acquainted with each other as well as our stellar kids counselors. Monday after breakfast they race to the barn for a short tutorial on riding, after which they are given their horse, (which remains theirs for the entire week). The rest of the week is up to the children to decide. We send rides out at 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., but they may choose to engage in other activities with their family or with the other children and our counselors. Family rides are also always an option, with the exception of Monday morning.

Activities out of the Saddle
Activities for kids are practically endless and our kids counselors are always available and willing to create games and entertain.

Private Outfitters and Off-Ranch Activities
Rock climbing, rafting, kayaking, hot air ballooning, and stand-up paddleboarding are available for families who want to arrange an off-ranch adventure. Just ask us and we’ll set it up!

Teens 13-18
We know that teens’ interests don’t always coincide with those of younger kids, so we’ve developed a teens program tailored to them.

In addition to riding, hiking, and fishing options available to everyone, teens can head to the hills for an overnight campout, or head out on the trails together. For those interested in learning more about horsemanship, we encourage them to participate in our Junior Wrangler Program. And there’s always the rec room or pool for downtime. We tailor our program to the ages and interests of each week’s group. Our enthusiastic counselors are flexible enough to adapt to what the kids and teens want to do, assuming it’s safe and fun! Parents are also encouraged to join us for activities such as rock climbing, rafting, and even lessons on barrel racing. Relais & Chateaux dining standards ensure your whole family will also enjoy wonderfully healthy and nourishing food selections!

Kids Dining Experience
Your children and teens will enjoy wonderful food selections   Meals are served in fun places on the ranch – in the dining room, on the verandah, at the Farm where the Green Team grows the food prepared in the kitchen, or at the Campfire.

Breakfast is served for everyone, adults, children and teens, from 7:30-9:00.
Lunch is served at noon every day.
Dinner times vary depending on the night.  Some are family-style dinners, while other evenings the children and teens eat separately—they get to frolic and laugh, while the adults are able to enjoy a more formal dining experience.

Child Friendly Ranch: Our Children’s Counselors
Providing Fun, Outdoor Adventure, and Supervision

The Home Ranch counselors are truly fun, caring people full of boundless energy, enthusiasm and creative ideas for your kids. We choose our counselors very carefully, and we look for enthusiastic young people who love working with children and whom are devoted to providing exceptional childcare and service to our guests.

Most of our summer counselors are college students often studying education or related disciplines, who wish to spend their summers impacting the lives of children and teens while immersing themselves in all the healthy outdoor living that Colorado offers.

The counselors at The Home Ranch are a special sort—they come to work every day full of energy and spirit and they do far more than supervise the children; they are active participants in all their activities and rival the kids in their excitement. They have a genuine passion for what they are doing. We don’t know how they do it, but we are thankful that they do!

Our counselors are:
- Certified in First Aid and CPR
- Have backgrounds working with children
- Experienced with various ages of children
- Honest, loving, energetic people

So whether your children would like to spend the whole day with you or their new friends, our goal at The Home Ranch is to provide a wide variety of fun and exciting outdoor adventures for children and teens to enjoy. This helps provides space and time for parents to relax, reconnect and to have some time and space their own adventures.
