The Two Creek Ranch is a family owned working cattle ranch. Currently running 600 mother cows on 25,000+ acres of land. The winter and spring range is located 8 miles south of Douglas, nestled along the North Platte River, with the LaBonte and Wagonhound Creeks flowing thru. The Oregon Trail straddles a portion of the range, where the ruts are still visible today.

The ranch has two summer ranges, one 15 miles North of Douglas and the other 75 miles SW of Douglas, on the Laramie Plains. From February through October, you can experience life as a true working cowboy. Calving, branding, gathering, sorting, trailing and shipping cattle is what Two Creek Ranch is all about.

Accommodation
During the cattle drive you will stay at various locations.

Description
On the Cattle Drive, we spend 2 nights at Cow Camp, 4 nights camping and the remaining nights at the main ranch.
You will need to bring your own sleeping bag.
Please, note that there will be no cellphone coverage during the duration of this cattle drive.

Main Ranch
There are 2 private rooms in the main house as well as 2 cabins (bunk house style) with 6 beds in each. Facilities are shared. There is free Wi-Fi available and it is possible to do your laundry if needed.

Cow Camp
There is a big dormitory room with 7 single beds, 2 private bedrooms and 3 trailers. There is a shower and an outhouse (shared).

Camping
While camping we provide you with a tent. There are no cots so it is best that you bring a sleeping mat. We bring a port-a-potty with us on the road. There are no showers available while camping.


Meals
All meals are included in this trip.

Breakfast : Juice, either an egg dish or pancakes, breakfast meats, toast, coffee or tea
Lunch (on trail): Can be sandwiches, fresh fruits & veggies, potatoes chips, cookies, etc.
Dinner: Beef dish, potatoe dish, vegetable dish, salad, fruit and dessert.

Guests must provide their own favorite beverage if they have one - example: soda/pop, beer, wine, hot chocolate etc. You can purchase this in Casper.  The ranch will provide you transportation to a store to purchase the extra things you need/want.

Dietary Restrictions
Sorry, we do not cater to special diets.

Riding

On real cattle drives no special accommodations are made for paying guests, you pay to be treated the same as the help. Travel trailers are provided along the trail, several pickup trucks also make the trip and you may choose to ride in a vehicle for a day. For more comfort, though perhaps a bit less adventure, choose an event where we return to the lodge at night, or one that offers a variety of cattle ranching events in addition to trailing the cows. A shower and other plumbing facilities may be near at hand, or clean-up possibilities may consist of water dipped from an icy brook. All of that is incidental. You are here to accomplish a purposeful job with the cowboys, and you may as well decide in advance that however they do it is good enough for you. 

 

Itinerary

Spring Cattle Drive
This is our cattle drive to summer pasture located on the Laramie Plains. We spend two days gathering the cattle from the spring pastures and trailing them to the ranch. The first five nights are spent at the ranch and guests stay in the lodge. The cattle spend their first night out at the county pen. The next night the cook and trailers join the drive. We move cattle about 10 to 12 miles a day with a break for lunch to rest the cattle, riders and horses. We follow the old Fort Fetterman freight trail to the Laramie Plains. Once we arrive with the cattle we will spend the night at the Little House on the Prairie. The next day we will spend sorting the cattle and trailing to pastures. Then we will pack up all of our gear and head back to the ranch. For this event a sleeping bag is needed.

Fall Cattle Drive
The fall gather will take place on the Laramie Plains for the 75 mile trip home. There will not be as many cattle in the fall because of shipping the steer calves, still around 1,000 head, after the neighbor's cattle fall in with ours. This trail is the spring trail in reverse. The cattle move easier this time of year because the cows are ready to come home and calves are older and bigger. We will spend the first couple of nights at cow camp, four nights camping, and the remaining nights at the main ranch. Weather this time of year is unpredictable. Anything from Indian summer to rain, snow or blizzard. You will need a sleeping bag.

Note: Two Creek is a working ranch, and because of the weather and other considerations, any of the events may change.
