Extremadura is one of the last-remaining unspoiled regions of Spain, exclusive destination for riding holidays in the south-west of Spain. It is an authentic paradise for riding holidays due to the excellent state of preservation of its nature and good climate in Winter, Spring and Autumn. Wood pasture (Dehesa) is the most emblematic landscape of the region and plays a crucial role in the great diversity of birds, is also a paradise for riding and for enjoying the interesting cultural and historical World Heritage Sites. Extremadura should be one of the destination to all nature lovers who are thinking of visiting this fascinating part of unspoiled Spain. Extremadura is considered one of the most important regions in Europe for birds it is among the most prized destinations for bird watching enthusiasts and nature lovers from all over the world, drawn by the possibility of observing birds in natural habitats of great beauty and also of enjoying the interesting cultural and historical heritage of Extremadura (Trujillo, Guadalupe, etc).

We offer 6 rides in this area:
-Transhumance Ride: We follow the “Cañada Real” 75 m wide with a thousand years old, pure nature, during 200km from Trujillo to Navarredonda de Gredos, crossing 3 different region in Spain (Extremadura, Castilla la Mancha y Castilla y León), riding in Cáceres province, Toledo province and Ávila province, from the winter pastures to the summer pastures in the Mountains. Exclusive for genuine riders!
-Monfragüe National Park: The Monfragüe National Park is a wonderful place to visit for Mediterranean flora and ornithology. Difficult to access and covered by scrubland, it is the largest and best preserved stretch of Mediterranean mountain landscape in the world; it is a typically Iberian landscape that provides a home for the Park's incredibly diverse flora and fauna.
-Trujillo Guadalupe Ride: This is a more relaxing ride across vast greenways spotted with wildlife and grazing cattle and sheep. You'll pass through vineyards and historic sites shaped by the Spanish Civil War.
-Conquistadors Villuercas Geopark: The landscape during the ride is spectacular, woods, pastures and the Dehesa of holm and cork oaks, the most emblematic landscape of Extremadura and the extraordinary landscape of Villuercas GEOPARK by Unesco, perfect for riding with our excellent horses.
-Conquistadors Extremadura Treasures: The trail includes the visit of 2 very interesting towns in Extremadura: Caceres and Merida. In addition to these incredible sites, you will ride through natural landscapes and maybe encounter wild animals.
-Long Weekend Ride: This ride follows the same itinerary as the last part of the Conquistadors Extremadura Treasures Ride.

Only the Conquistadors Extremadura Treasures Ride & the Long Weekend Ride are stationary with all nights spent in Trujillo.

Description

Hotel in Trujillo
The hotel is housed in an elegant  19th century manor house. It offers 27 bedrooms that all come furnished with air conditioning, private facilities (with hair dryer and toiletries) and a TV. Facilities include a beautiful garden with terrace and free Wi-Fi access. There is a laundry service available for guests.


Hotel in Jaraicejo
This accommodation offers ensuite bedrooms with private bathroom, TV, central heating and air conditioning. Wi-Fi is available free of charge.


Hotel in Torrejón el Rubio
This beautiful Inn has been built with local materials fits perfectly into its environment: the Extremadura countryside. The rooms are simply furnished and feature paintings from local artists. They are all equipped with a private bathroom, a flat screen TV and a safe. Amenities include a free Wi-Fi zone, an outdoor swimming pool, a lounge with a fireplace, and a paddle tennis area.

This small hotel dates back to the 19th century and was built with local stones. It offers 23 air-conditioned rooms (some with beamed ceilings) with private bathroom, a TV and free Wi-Fi access. There is a small garden with a terrace for guests’ relaxation.


Guesthouse in Zorita
This guesthouse has a lovely façade and offers simple accommodations in the heart of Zorita village. The rooms all feature ensuite facilities, a TV and air-conditioning.  Visitors can also make use of the lounge area to relax or chat with each other.

Hotel in Logrosán
This rural complex offers accommodations in small stone-built huts called chozos. The 6 chozos mix perfectly the charm of the countryside with modernity and all come equipped with a small kitchen, free Wi-Fi access, a TV, air conditioning and a fireplace. There is also a small garden.

Hotel in Cañamero
This historic Inn is surrounded by nature and offers accommodation in four country houses, each featuring 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room and a small kitchen. The houses are air-conditioned and have free Wi-Fi access. The décor reminds guests of the surrounding countryside.


Monastery of Guadalupe
This impressive monastery welcomes guests in beautifully decorated guestrooms. The rooms all have air conditioning, a satellite TV, internet access and a private bathroom. The interior features a gothic décor and guests are welcome to explore the different rooms.

This finca was built during the 19th century and is composed of two old farmhouses (one for wine and one for olive oil). Nowadays, it welcomes guests in 13 tastefully decorated ensuite bedrooms fitted with central heating and air conditioning. Wi-Fi is available in public areas and guests are welcome to roam the 30 hectares (approx. 75 acres) park (with vines and olive trees) or go for a swim in the outdoor swimming pool.

Guesthouse in Berzocana
This small country house is surrounded by mountains and features amazing views of the surrounding as well as a quiet environment. Each ensuite bedroom is unique and features a beautiful painting of a local bird. Here, there is no heater or air-conditioning but rooms are kept fresh thanks to very thick walls and a small wood stove allows to warm-up during cold nights. Guests can still access Wi-Fi and are welcome to relax in the garden or in the shared lounge.

This beautiful stonehouse offers simple accommodations with air conditioning and private bathrooms. The house is decorated with many antiques which gives it a rustic charm.  Guests can watch TV or surf the internet in the lounge.

Guesthouse in Casas de Miravete
This guesthouse offers accommodations in 2 well-equipped apartments able to fit up to 4 people each. The apartments each include a bedroom, a bathroom, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi access and a lounge with a TV.

Hotel in Navalmoral de la Mata
This modern hotel offers modern guestrooms equipped with all necessary amenities: a TV, free Wi-Fi, a comfortable bed and a private bathroom with toiletries. Guests can relax in the garden and terrace to soak up the sun.

Hotel in Oropesa
This beautiful historic building dates back to the 14th century and was originally a castle owned by a local  bourgeois family. It offers panoramic views over the surrounding estate. The rooms are all uniquely decorated and feature a medieval décor. All rooms have their own bathroom, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi access. There are multiple public areas that guest are welcome to explore including lounges, a terrace and an outdoor swimming pool.

Hotel in Navalcán
This beautiful rural complex has been built with comfort of guests and respect of the environment in mind! It comprises 4 different houses of different sizes, all featuring air conditioning, comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms, a TV, a well equipped kitchen and Wi-Fi access. Each house has its own decor and natural materials such as wood and stones are omnipresent. There is a lovely garden and a seasonal outdoor salt water swimming pool for guest to unwind after a long day in the saddle.

Hotel in Mombeltrán
This small hotel is ideally located in the heart of Mombeltrán and offers great views over the Castle of the Dukes of Alburquerque. It has 9 cozy bedrooms with private bathroom, heating, air conditioning and television. Public areas include a lounge and a patio. There is internet access at this property.


Hotel in Navarredonda de Gredos
This small hotel is surrounded by nature and provides great views of the mountains. The bedrooms all come with Wi-Fi access, a TV and private facilities. Guests are welcome to relax in the panoramic lounge or outdoor terrace.

Hotel in Hoyos del Espino
This family hotel has been welcoming visitors since 1978. It has 15 guestrooms; all fitted with a private bathroom and a TV. There are public areas where guest can read a book, enjoy the view, watch TV or simply surf the internet. There is also a small garden with colorful flowers and a terrace.

All nights spent in a country house in Trujillo.

If we are unable to find another rider to share the room with you, the single supplement fee applies.



Meals
All meals are included on this trip.

The food is a highlight of this trip! Mamen will delight you with the tapas-breaks waiting for you with Serrano ham, Manchego cheese, olives, nuts, etc.

Lunches are taken on the trail; in the countryside (we bring tables and chairs) and always include a starter (salad, gazpacho, vegetables, etc), a main course (paella, iberian pork, fish, etc), fresh fruit, coffee and local wines. Lunchtime features delicious home cooked Spanish dishes such as Paella, Tortilla Española, Iberian pork bbq, salads, and soft cheese very typical from Extremadura “Torta del Casar”. Lunch is often followed by a siesta in the countryside.
 
After the day riding, your dinner in the evening is around 9 pm and you can choose from different dishes and courses of local Spanish recipes. Your dinner is usually taken at the accommodation and include a choice between 3-5 starters (mix salad, soup, vegetables, pasta, etc), 3-5 main course (grilled beef, pork, stews, fish, omelet, etc), a dessert (flan, rice pudding, fruit, cake, etc), local wine, bread and coffee or tea.

The following drinks are included in the package: red and white wines, beer, refreshments, coffee or tea during the meals and aperitifs. Water bottle is provided every morning.

Dietary Restrictions
Special diets (vegetarian, gluten free, allergies, etc.) can be arranged with advance notice.

This trip includes some wine with dinner and can accommodate special dietary requests.

Riding


Option A: Transhumance Ride - 7 days riding (approx. 200 km total).
Option B: Monfragüe National Park - 5 days riding (approx. 180 km total).
Option C: Trujillo-Guadalupe Ride - 5 days riding (approx. 180 km total).
Option D: Conquistadors Ride - 5 days riding (approx. 150 km total).

Riding Schedule
On a normal day, we start riding at 10am, after a well-deserved rest and a good breakfast. Participants are encouraged in helping with the preparation of the horses. Usually, we need to catch the horses from the fields where they have spent the night, feed them, brush them and saddle them up before breakfast.
In the morning, you will ride about 4 hours with a short tapas-break (Serrano ham, Manchego cheese, olives, nuts, etc. and something to drink) in the middle of the morning (usually around noon). After the break, we ride to the lunch place. A luxury picnic is waiting for us in the quietest and most beautiful spot. The stop for lunch is about 2 hours long, with time to enjoy the pic-nic and little siesta after lunch.
In the afternoon, we ride for about 2 hours until we get to our accommodation.

Riding Experience
These trips have been designed for intermediate to experienced riders. You should be comfortable at the walk, trot and canter, in group, in open spaces and your seat should be firm. On the rides, you will be riding for between four to seven hours a day so it is important to be as riding fit as possible.

Pace
The overall pace of riding is moderate with walk, trots and canters mostly every day. Usually, when the terrain allows for a safe canter, we canter. In the mountains, in many areas the terrain does not allow for trotting or cantering so we enjoy walking with breathtaking views around.
The distance covered on the average is 25-35 km per day. We usually spend about 6 hours in the saddle every riding day.

Tack
We use fine quality English saddles and silicon seat saver. All the tack is in excellent conditions, very comfortable for horses and riders. You have small saddlebags in front of the saddles for a water bottle, sunscreen, camera, mobile, etc.

Support Vehicle
A support van follows the group during the whole week, meeting us in the morning, for tapas-breaks, lunches, at night and to move your luggage. This means you have access to your luggage at least 3 times a day.

Horses
We currently have 21 horses: 14 PRE, 4 Pure Hispano-Arab, 1 Anglo-Arab and 2 Crossed (hispano-bretón, hispano-lusitano).
Our horses are responsive, well behave, good natured and serene thanks to the natural horsemanship method used to train them.
Most of our horses were born and bred at home while others have been with us since they were foals.
They live in freedom as a herd, eating, drinking, sleeping and traveling together in the most natural way possible.
They live in a huge pine forest (500 ha) in the Gredos Mountains or in the rich pastures in the Dehesas of Extremadura. They keep fit as they can walk around 20 km every day. They live with other groups of animals including other horses, donkeys, cows and also wild animals such as wolves, roe deer, deer, wild boar, foxes.

Staff
Emilio and Mamen (both born in Gredos Mountains) will be personally escorting you on these trips. Emilio will happily guide you across the trails, while Mamen will be preparing delicious meals and pic-nics.
Emilio has been working in equestrian tourism for over 30 years and he dedicated his whole life to his horses. He speaks English and Spanish.

Age Restrictions
There is no upper age limit, as long as you are riding fit and healthy. The minimum riding age is 10 years old (competent riders only), accompanied by an adult.

Travel Insurance
It is mandatory to take a travel insurance for this trip! If you come from Europe, you should bring the European Health card, this gives you access to Spanish health care.

Non-Riders
Non-riding companions are welcome to join this trip. They can travel in the support car and join in meals, dinners and others activities, or if they wish, they can rent a car and move on their own, joining the group for dinner.



The following are sample itineraries but please note that changes are possible due to weather and other circumstances.
The van support is always close to the group with the luggage, so it's not necessary to carry things on the horse. The group meets the van at tapas time, lunch time, or in any other moment if necessary (for shoeing a horse, take rain coats, etc).

Sample Itinerary: Monfragüe National Park (progressive ride) - subject to changes

Day 1: Arrival in Trujillo
Meet at Madrid airport at 3pm and transfer to Trujillo (2.5 hours’ drive). Visit of the spectacular town of Trujillo before welcome dinner at the hotel with us. We review the ride on the map.

Day 2: Trujillo to Jaraicejo
After breakfast, we transfer you to the stables (5 minutes) and distribute the horses. In the morning, riding through open landscape with beautiful views of Trujillo town. lt is possible to see bulls, sheep, goats, in freedom in the countryside, when we ride through the “Cañada Real Puerto de Miravete”. On this trip, we will ride through the “Cañadas reales”, a Spanish medieval network of paths for cattle movement, 75 m wide, perfect for riding. Short afternoon ride to Jaraicejo - very nice medieval village in the National Park. Overnight and dinner in rural hotel.

Day 3: Jaraicejo to Torrejón el Rubio 
Departure after breakfast. We ride by the cattle trail to Torrejón el Rubio. Good trots and canters in the morning through the Dehesa. Another luxury pic-nic is waiting for us in a beautiful spot on our way. In the afternoon, riding with great views of Sierra de Gredos in front of us. Dinner and night at beautiful 4* hotel with SPA and swimming pool, where we spend 2 nights.

Day 4: Ride to Salto del Gitano 
Departure after breakfast. Today, we ride through the National Park to Salto del Gitano, crossing the most protected area of the park, the National Park Reserve. We get to the highest place in the Sierra de las Corchuelas, surrounded by oaks. Unique and stunning views to enjoy. We can see the Tajo river canyons. Lunch beside the river Tajo and after lunch time to visit the cliff “Salto del Gitano” to admire the black storks, vultures, Egyptian vultures and imperial eagles just a few of the many birds that nest in the area. Ride back to Torrejón el Rubio. Dinner at 4* hotel.

Day 5: Torrejón el Rubio to Aldea del Obispo
Today is a beautiful day ride from Torrejón el Rubio to Aldea del Obispo, riding through the “Cañada Real”. We have lunch beside the Almonte river, amazing enclave where the Cañada Real crosses the river by another beautiful medieval bridge. After lunch, riding to Aldea del Obispo. Dinner and night at lovely country house.

Day 6: Aldea del Obispo to Trujillo
This is a short day from Aldea del Obispo to Trujillo. Today, we will ride again through the “Cañada Real”. Fantastic lunch with paella cooked on the spot with magnificent views of Trujillo town. We have some time in the afternoon to visit Trujillo. Farewell diner in Trujillo main square with your hosts.

Day 7: Departure
After breakfast, departure from Trujillo at 10 am. The transfer to the airport takes 2.5 hours, so please do not book flights departing before 2 p.m. All riders will be transferred at the same time, if any rider needs to arrive in Madrid before, we can arrange transfer at extra cost.

Sample Itinerary: Trujillo-Guadalupe Ride (progressive ride) - subject to changes

Day 1:  Arrival in Trujillo
Meet at Madrid airport for 3pm and transfer to Trujillo (2.5 hours’ drive). Time to visit to the spectacular town of Trujillo before welcome dinner at the hotel with us where we learn about the ride and region on the map.

Day 2: Ride to Madroñera 
Short transfer from Trujillo to Herguijuela, where the stables are. Distribution of horses. Today, we ride through the “Dehesa”, a cultural landscape exclusive of southern and central Spain.
Dehesa is a multifunctional agrosylvopastoral system (a type of agroforestry). Used primarily for grazing, they produce a variety of products including non-timber forest products such as wild game, mushrooms, honey, cork, and firewood. The tree component is oaks, usually holm (Quercus ilex) and cork (Quercus suber). Dehesa is an anthropogenic system that provides not only a variety of foods, but also wildlife habitat for endangered species such as the Iberian lynx and the Spanish Imperial eagle.
Short afternoon ride through flat terrain to Madroñera.

Day 3: Madroñera to Zorita
Departure after breakfast. We ride by the cattle trail to Zorita. Good trots and canters in the morning through the Dehesa where cattle (cows, sheep, goats and iberic pigs.) can be seen everywhere. We have a lovely pic-nic in the countryside, and in the afternoon, ride to Zorita.

Day 4: Zorita to Logrosan
We will follow the greenway, an old railway built in the 20s that due to the Spanish Civil War was never finished. Along the greenway, we will see objects and buildings that remind us that there would have been a railway. During the ride, we can enjoy the view over the impressive Villuercas Mountains landscape (Geopark by UNESCO).

Day 5: Logrosan to Cañamero
Departure after breakfast. We will go through the vineyard in Cañamero, is famous in Spain for good wines and olives gardens. Here, the landscape changes to the beauty of Villuercas mountains where we can see Ruecas river canyons. We will follow the greenway.

Day 6: Cañamero to Guadalupe
This day is a short day from Cañamero to Guadalupe where we will go through the Cañada Real. We can enjoy the view over the impressive Villuercas landscape. On any day, we can observe Vultures, Eagles, Azure-winged Magpies, Red-billed Choughs, Shrikes and Ravens. Villuercas has been declared Geopark (UNESCO, 2011) because of its Cultural and Natural Heritage and, of course, the great geological features, with many interesting and visible geological elements. 
Comfortable lunch in the countryside. Horses go back to Trujillo by truck. Evening visit of Guadalupe town and the Monastery. Dinner and night at Guadalupe Monastery Hotel. The Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe is located in the province of Cáceres at a location of great beauty, overlooking a valley surrounded by high mountains. The town of Guadalupe, built around the Monastery (dating back to 1337), offers a unique style with a traditional architecture.

Day 7: Departure
After breakfast, departure from Guadalupe at 10 am. All riders will be transferred at the same time, so if any rider needs to arrive Madrid before, all riders depart earlier or we can arrange transfer (at extra cost).

Day 1: Arrival in Trujillo
Meeting point at Madrid Airport at 3:00pm and transfer to Trujillo (2.5 h driving). Time to visit to the spectacular town of Trujillo before welcome dinner at the hotel in Trujillo where we learn about the ride and region on the map.

Day 2: Herguijuela to Garciaz
Transfer from Trujillo to Herguijuela, where the stables are located. Distribution of horses. Riding through the Dehesa, which is thought to be the most common kind of habitat that covered the Extremadura region thousands of years ago. Comfortable lunch in the countryside with excellent paella, cooked by us and good wines.
After lunch, short afternoon ride to Garciaz where the horses spend the night. Riders are transferred (15 min) to Madroñera.

Day 3: Garciaz to Berzocana
Beautiful views of the best-preserved Mediterranean forests. The dominant species are the evergreen oaks, the holm or cork oaks and the deciduous oaks.
After lunch, we ride with magnificent views of the Sierra de las Villuercas. We get to the Villuercas mountains in Berzocana. Night and dinner at a very nice rural hotel where we can enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Villuercas Geopark.

Day 4: Berzocana to Logrosán
We enjoy the view over the impressive Villuercas landscape. We can observe Vultures, Eagles, Azure-winged Magpies, Red-billed Choughs, Shrikes and Ravens.
Villuercas has been declared Geopark (UNESCO, 2011) because of its Cultural and Natural Heritage and, of course, the great geological features, with many interesting and visible geological elements. This is a very rural region with fields and stonewalls. In the afternoon, we enjoy some good canters.

Day 5: Logrosán to Zorita
Good trots and canters in the morning by the Dehesa. Cattle can be seen everywhere: cows, sheep, goats and Iberic pigs still live in a way, which is reminiscent of bygone days.  After our luxury pic-nic, in the afternoon, good canters to Zorita. Dinner at local restaurant.

Day 6: Zorita to Trujillo
We will ride in the Dehesa Extremeña with good and long trots and canters to return to Trujillo. We will spend the night at the same hotel in Trujillo than the first night. Farewell dinner at the hotel.

Day 7: Departure
Breakfast at the hotel and departure from Trujillo at 10 am, to be at Madrid Airport around 12.30 pm. Please, do not book flights before 2 p.m. All riders will be transferred at the same time, so if any rider needs to arrive Madrid before, all riders depart earlier or we can arrange transfer (at extra cost).

Sample Itinerary: Conquistadors Extremadura Treasures (stationary ride) - subject to changes

Day 1: Arrival in Trujillo
Meeting point at Madrid Airport at 3:00pm and transfer to Trujillo (2.5 h driving). Time to visit to the spectacular town of Trujillo before welcome dinner at the hotel in Trujillo where we learn about the ride and region on the map.

Day 2: Ride around Trujillo and visit of Mérida
After breakfast, horses are already ready to go! We go for a lovely ride along the ancient cattle paths between fields and green pastures with carpets of wild flowers. While riding in the surroundings of Trujillo, we have great views of the historical town.
After our picnic break with good local wines (Extremadura red wine is excellent and almost unobtainable anywhere else), in the afternoon, we visit Mérida (45-min drive from Trujillo).
Mérida, is a real spectacle, with beautiful Roman buildings including the Roman theatre, amphitheater and Roman bridge across the River Guadiana. In facts, Mérida was founded by the Romans in 25 BC as Augusta Emerita, the capital of the Roman province Lusitania, one of the most important towns in Iberia.
This afternoon you can visit the historic town and the Roman theatre during a couple of hours. There are audio guides available (not included: tickets to Museums and Monuments, guided visits or  drinks/snacks in bars)

Day 3: Ride to Finca Santa Marta
Today you get to ride through ancient Mediterranean Forests, with beautiful views and open landscape. In the afternoon, you will ride in the Dehesa and alongside olive trees and vineyards lined by stone walls. After lunch, you will ride for 2 more hours in order to get to the Finca just in time to have a relaxing break before your dinner.
Finca Santa Marta is a former olive oil mill which was converted into a country inn, situated in the heart of the outstanding natural landscape of the Extremadura dehesa, with swimming pool and olive grove, still possible to visit the old olive oil mill.

Day 4: Ride back to Trujillo

Day 5: Ride through the Dehesa and visit of Caceres
This day the riding will be in the morning, with beautiful views of the best-preserved Mediterranean forests. Rolling hectares of holm oaks, the classic landscape in Extremadura “Dehesa”. Comfortable lunch in the countryside, with starters, main course, salad, fresh fruit, coffee or tea with chocolate and biscuit; good wines.
In the afternoon, transfer to Cáceres (about 30 min) for a visit of this historical World heritage site. The Old Town is a wonderful medieval and renaissance complex full of history and palaces. This afternoon you will visit Cáceres for a couple of hours (not included: tickets to Museums and Monuments, guided visits or drinks/snacks in bars)

Day 6: Half-day Ride and visit of Trujillo
After breakfast, we go for a lovely ride along open natural landscape. Green open spaces and cattle can be seen everywhere.  Lovely picnic lunch with an excellent paella cooked on the spot.
In the afternoon, visit of Trujillo, a very historic town with a mix of cultures. There are still Roman remains, a spectacular Castle founded in the 10th century by Arabs & in the main square, many beautiful palaces built by Spanish Conquistadors during the 16th-century and the equestrian statue of Pizarro.
Many storks, eagles and swallows can be seen circling the nests on the roof of the churches and palaces in the Plaza Mayor. There are also two museums – Casa-Museo de Pizarro and Centro de Visitantes Los Descubridores (not included: tickets to Museums and Monuments, guided visits or drinks/snacks in bars).

Day 7: Departure

The following itinerary describes the route from North to South.

Day 1: Arrival in Trujillo
Meet at Madrid airport for 3:00 pm and transfer to Trujillo (2.5 hours’ drive). We visit the spectacular town of Trujillo before our welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: Herguijuela to Torrecillas de la Tiesa 
Transfer from Trujillo town to Herguijuela (10 min) where the horses are and distribution of horses. We go riding through the “Cañada Real”. Lunch is taken in the countryside with excellent paella cooked by us at the spot. In the afternoon we ride across flat terrain to Torrecillas de la Tiesa.

Day 3: Torrecillas de la Tiesa to Casas de Miravete 
Departure after breakfast, we ride in the morning in opened countryside trough Dehesas and beautiful landscape. Good trots and canters in the morning. Lunch in the countryside. In the afternoon a short ride to Casas de Miravete, a small village in a spectacular enclave in the Monfrague National Park. Dinner at local bar with good local food.

Day 4: Casas de Miravete to Navalmoral de la Mata
Riding in the morning along the “Cañada Real”, with impressive views of Sierra the Gredos in front of us. Crossing the Albalat Bridge (16th century) over the Tagus River, one of the important public works built during the reign of His Catholic Majesty Charles I of Spain and V of Germany with a great shield in relief of Emperor Charles with the double eagle. Pic-nic by the Tagus river reservoir water. Riding in the afternoon to Navalmoral de la Mata.

Day 5: Navalmoral de la Mata to Las Ventas de San Julian
Departure after breakfast, we follow the Cañada Real in a flatter area with good trots and canters. Here the Cañada has an unusual wide of 200m. Horses spend the night at Las Ventas de San Julian. Transfer for dinner and night at beautiful Rural Inn in Calzada de Oropesa.

Day 6: Las Ventas de San Julian to Navalcán
Departure after breakfast. We continue following the Cañada Real. The landscape changes. We ride along the reservoir close to Navalcan with beautiful views of the Gredos Mountains. Dinner and night at lovely rural Inn in Navalcán.

Day 7: Navalcán to Mombeltrán
We change to take another Cañada to go to the Gredos Mountains. Beautiful views! Toledo province is to our left and we cross to Avila province in Castilla y Leon.

Day 8: Mombeltrán to Navarredonda de Gredos
After breakfast, we start to climb the Roman Road with more than two thousand years old, very well preserved. It was used for the Roman armies and the transport of metals crossing the Sierra de Gredos through the abrupt mountain pass Puerto del Pico. Later on, it worked as a cattle drive in the medieval time. Despite the passage of centuries, is still in good condition. We ride on the Roman road up the mountains with amazing views, crossing the picturesque mountain village: Cuevas del Valle.
When we get the Puerto del Pico, at the end of the Roman road, the landscape changes: beautiful mountainous landscape. Lunch at local restaurant at Puerto del Pico, after lunch riding in very different landscape, green mountain pastures with stonewalls and the highest peaks of Gredos in front of us to finish the amazing horse riding trip.
