The starting point of this hiking tour is in Trieste, the former Habsburger seaport seated at the foothills of the Karst. After a few kilometres, you leave Italy and hike to Slovenia and Istria. This sunny peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea is characterised by little picturesque fisher villages, small towns on the Karst hills, vineyards and valleys. Let yourself be surprised by the charms of a landscape rich in contrasts and the various colours of Istria.

The hiking tour through Istria runs slightly hilly.

Description
Accommodations consist of a mixture of 3 and 4 star hotels offering private bedrooms with ensuite facilities.

Local tax
Some cities charge a tourist tax. These taxes are not included in the sale price of the tour and must be paid directly by you at check-in or check-out at the hotels.
This fee varies depending on the hotel category, the season and the number of days of stay. It is usually between 1 and 5 € per person per night.

Day 1: Arrival in Trieste
Individual arrival at the first hotel in Trieste.

Day 2: Val Rosandra to Pesek
Today‘s hiking trip takes you out of Trieste. By using public transport you arrive at the starting point of the tour. You hike comfortably on the old railway line through the mixed forests of the Val Rosandra to the hamlet of Pesek.
The valley is interesting in many ways: besides traces of prehistoric settlements, you will find the only river in the province that carries water all year round. In addition, it is characterised by a diverse flora.
Ascent approx. 310 m / descent approx. 180 m / approx. 4 - 4.5 hours

Day 3: Pesek to Aquilinia
On the first section the path leads you again through the beautiful Val Rosandra. On the way you pass caves and hike along the border to Slovenia. You will pass the village of Bagnoli della Rosandra, from where you can also admire the Roman aqueduct. Through small villages you walk further and further towards the sea until you reach Aquilinia. By public transport you get to Muggia.

Day 4: Muggia to Ankaran
You leave the fishing village of Muggia with its lovely maintained old town and head over to Ankaran. Soon you will leave Italy and cross the border to Slovenia. The shady pine forests offer a view over the numerous bays and the Mediterranean Sea. In the afternoon, a bus ride will take you to Koper (not included). Capodistria, as the village is also called, awaits you. Let the day end in the car-free old town with all its magnificent buildings.

Day 5: Koper to Piran
Hiking along the sea you will leave Koper, you pass the ancient fisher town Izola and walk to Piran, where you will spend your night. Piran, birth place of the italian violonist and composer Giuseppe Tartini, is influenced heavily from venetian impact. Stroll through the alleys with its Venetian palaces or enjoy the atmosphere on Piazza Tartini in the centre of Piran.

Day 6: Groznjan to Motovun
In the morning, transfer from Piran to Groznjan. Named the first time in 1102 it is today a meeting point for musicians from all over the world and the starting point of your day's hike. Here, during the summer, classical concerts of young musicians take place . The Jazz is Back festival, which takes place in the second half of July, is dedicated to jazz. From Grožnjan you hike to Livade. The village of Motovun can be seen from far away, high up on a hill.

Day 7: Motovun to Porec
This last hiking day in Istria leads you to Porec. From the distance you will see the Euphrasian Basilica, which has been taken up by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site and is certainly worth a visit. A tasting glass of wine on one of the places in the historic centre of Porec will remind you of the highlights of your hiking week.
