Rancho de la Osa
Arizona
USA
Rancho de la Osa, or Ranch of the “She Bear,” is one of the last great Spanish Haciendas still standing in America. During the Mexican Revolution, Pancho Villa was said to have fired shots at the Hacienda. When you stay with us, you can hold a Mexican cannonball found in the stucco walls of the Hacienda dining room. Typically, the sun shines more than 300 days a year. At night, in our Zocalo, the stars twinkle and shine with unmatched clarity from a coal black sky. Located in the high Sonoran Desert along the Mexican border, we are one hour from Tucson. We border the Buenos Aires National Wildlife refuge, where you can watch deer and antelope still roaming in herds. Nestled among huge eucalyptus trees, the gracious lifestyle of the Old Southwest is captured and treasured in the 1800’s Hacienda. This elegant
building welcomes each guest with a warm and inviting ambience. Furnished with Mexican antiques the Hacienda is a gentle reminder of the fascinating history of this magnificent old Spanish land grant.
The Territorial-style Ranch Guest Quarters are wonderfully serene, simply elegant and perfectly weathered. These pure and unpretentious buildings are made from the ancient clays of the Ranch. The magic and spirituality of the Ranch is timeless and will touch your soul! As soon as you arrive, you will slow to a totally stress-free pace. Surrounded by 130,000 acres of Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge, the ranch has no noise, air or light pollution. The stars shine with clarity and brilliance almost every night. A pool, spa, hiking trails, horseback riding and bicycles (first come basis) are available for your use.
Single travelers: Love to travel, but enjoy having someone to talk with during meals. Rancho De La Osa is the perfect getaway for pampering yourself! As the property is very private and spiritual, it lends itself to rejuvenating your mind and spirit. It is a wonderful place to spend your holidays and never be lonely.
Serving as a Guest Ranch since the 1920’s, Rancho de la Osa became a secluded gathering place for many well-known figures. Past guests include: President Lyndon B. Johnson, Adlai Stevenson, U.S. Supreme Court Justice William 0. Douglas, Hollywood Cowboy, Tom Mix and Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With the Wind.

With more than 320 days of sunshine a year and night-time stars that shine with unmatched clarity within a coal black sky, Rancho De La Osa is a special place that rejuvenates the spirit and invigorates the soul. Low precipitation and clear, dry air makes Arizona one of the world's most ideal climates year round. The ranch is located just outside of Sasabe, AZ where in January the average LOW temperature is 35 F (2 C) and the average HIGH is 63 F (17 C) while in July the average LOW is 67 F (19 C) and the average HIGH is 97 F (36 C). While the temperatures are highest in the summer, July and August are also the months with the most rainfall in a region that has almost none!

This is a small, private guest ranch of 19 rooms and is one of the oldest haciendas in Arizona.
There are three guest wings made of hand formed adobe block. Every guest room has a private bath; most have a wood burning fireplace to chase away the evening chill and separate entrances.
All guest rooms are non-smoking.
Sorry, we cannot accommodate children under 6 or pets.

Enjoy “Southwestern” dining in our romantic historic hacienda dining room, secluded outdoor courtyard or under the stars at a cookout! You will enjoy choice cuts of meat, freshly baked breads and special desserts. Homemade salad dressings compliment fresh lettuce and herbs which grow in our garden. We are happy to cook “Vegetarian or Low Fat”. Come to our ranch and enjoy simple elegance, timeless serenity and “Listening to the Silence.”
Our Chefs work each season to create interesting new dishes and menus. Breakfast each morning includes a fresh fruit course, entrée and pastry served with juice and Seattle’s Best Coffee, or, if you’re a tea drinker, Tazo is the brand of choice.
