The Cordoba region or Argentina is
well known for its pleasant weather and healthy climate - "siempre de
temporada" or "always in season", is the old slogan. In Cordoba the
climate can vary but is generally sunny and dry. The rainy season is in
the summer months, whilst the winter is short and dry with crisp
nights, made cozy by log burning fires The sun is strong all year
round, so hats and good sun protection are recommended!
Cordoba's climate is often described as 'Mediterranean', even despite
the fact its eastern border is 300 miles away from the Atlantic Ocean,
and western edge 330 miles from the Pacific Ocean.
During the summer season the days are warm and the nights pleasant. In
winter the climate is drier - but never badly cold. The annual average
temperature is approximately 16° C to 17° C, and can vary throughout
the year to between 14 and 15° C.
Rain amounts hardly surpass 500 cubic millimeters per
year, with rain levels in the north western province hardly exceeding
200 cubic millimeters a year. Eastern and western winds are rare,
short-lived and weak.
South and northeast winds begin to blow during the month of September
- increasing in strength during times of Antarctic cyclonic depressions.
Strong and windy storms are frequent during the months of summer, along with heavy rains and electric storms.
Flora and Fauna
The Cordoba hills in the centre of
Argentina are famous for their healthy climate and wonderful scenery.
The higher land is bare of trees and covered in long straw-like grass
called ‘paja brava’ which the animals eat in the winter months. There
are a number of tree varieties: acacias, cocos and molles are the most
common, and wild flowers cover the hills from early spring to the end
of autumn. There is an interesting variety of bird species from
vultures and eagles down to the most brightly coloured humming birds,
whilst condors have also returned to the hills. Partridges and doves
are plentiful and foxes and hares can often be seen, though the puma,
wild boar and small deer are more elusive.
Weather can sometimes
be unpredictable - there is always the possibility of a wet, windy or
cold day, and so pack accordingly! In addition, the sun is very
strong, so hats and good sun protection are recommended all year round.

The estancia is located in a unique landscape, chosen for it's ideal
characteristics for outdoor activities. The country hotel is a
historical enclosure of the XVII century and its restoration was done
in a careful way. Preserving its genuine architecture, style of
textures, furniture and original ornaments which give as a result a
revalued construction of great beauty, that offers a comfort to the
guests.
Seven rooms of the highest standard with all the amenities provide
maximum comfort and privacy. Adobe and stone constructions, Creole and
colonial furniture, first-class beds and bathrooms with modern lighting
provide the setting of an exquisite place. The infrastructure embedded
in an exceptional natural environment, together with personalized
service, excursions and a rich program of activities will make of your
stay a true collection of unforgettable memories.
There is a swimming pool and free WI-Fi connectivity.

The History of the Place
The estancia dates back to the18th century. Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera (founder of the city of Córdoba) requested its construction to his son Pedro -to whom the estancia was conferred in return. The purpose of this was that those who covered thousands of leagues to and from Alto Peru could find replacement and provision of horses, and also rest and spirituality.
First were the Spanish Conquerors. Missionaries from different religious orders followed. Once Independence was established, these routes and postas were spectators of the passing of patriotic forces commanded by Belgrano, San Martín, Balcarce, Rondeau, and Ortíz de Ocampo, among others. Moreover, these tracks witnessed the unfortunate passage of men on their way to tragedy, such as Facundo Quiroga heading for Barranca Yaco, and Lavalle, who crossed this place before dying in the north.
Immersed at the heart of San Pedro, stands the oldest chapel of Córdoba, which dates back to 16th century. It was built by order of the founder of Córdoba, so that the travellers could recover the spiritual strength to continue with their journey.
Next to the chapel stands La Posta, a farm house built with natural materials: mud, stone, water and fire; which are as rustic as they are remote; all reveal features of the purest colonial style.
The existence of La Posta is registered back to the first half of 16th century, although it is estimated around 50 years after the chapel. It has been carefully restored, preserving its genuine architecture. The interplay of ornaments, textures and furniture contribute to the reconstruction of its great original beauty, providing moreover, much comfort to the guests.
This Estancia, which was refuge to illustrious personalities, now welcomes you with the same intensity and warmth as in its early days.
Music at the estancia
Music is an essential factor of the experience at the estancia. Be it along the corridors of the hotel, be it in La Posta, or a Guitarreada in the fields…Music is the soundtrack of the unforgettable moments lived in the hotel. Local artists, hotel employees, and also guests participate of musical evenings held in the Music Room every day.
In the same way, concerts of classical and folk music take place in the Church with professional artists within the framework of a cultural program. The latter also includes a permanent exhibition of Argentine artists in the Gallery that Zurbaran has in the sacristy of the church.
The Church
Immersed at the heart of the estancia, embedded in an impressive landscape covered by palms, stands the oldest chapel of Córdoba. Its solid style with a square tower and a small atrium shelters San Pedrito (patron saint of the region), a carving dating back to 16th century, made by the aborigines of the area. The chapel restoration has boosted the original architectural and ornamental attributes, safeguarding its historical and religious worth –which, as happened in early years, showers spirituality on those who visit.
A must after having been to the Jesuit Estancias of Jesús María and Santa Catalina, the Church of San Pedrito is regularly visited by aficionados of religious tourism. It is not uncommon to find painters facing the church trying to capture its magic, as famous artists like Fernando Fader have already done. The intimate link between the church and art led the prestigious and renowned Galería Zurbarán to hold a permanent exhibition in the sacristy, where the works of important Argentine artists can be appreciated.
