High Tauern Grossglockner Ride
Kaernten
Austria
Come ride within the fascinating and mystic world of the Grossglockner and the High Tauern Mountains - supreme natural beauty as we have to come to appreciate and cherish it. Discover the Moelltal Valley surrounded by the High (Hohe) Tauern National Park. The impressive mountains of the High Tauern range provide a splendid backdrop for a truly enchanting vacation on the beautiful local Haflinger horses. The park lies in the heart of the Austrian Alps. Covering an area of 1800 square kilometers it is the second largest mountain range in Europe. It is a landscape made up of majestic mountains, wide glaciers, Alpine pastures, rugged rocks, waterfalls, and ancient cultural landscapes. The difference in elevation from the deepest valley stream to the top of the "Grossglockner" (11,400’) peak is a stunning near 7,800 feet. This horseback vacation rides out from a cozy and romantic equestrian hotel with individually furnished rooms and friendly hosts. Visit the Neunbrunn water falls, the Apriach mills, the canyons, and the excursion up the Grossglockner Mountain. There are also special “Glacier Ride” weeks available with a 3-day overnight trip into the grand mountain scenery of the High Tauern.

During the summer months, the Hohe Tauern mountain region radiates an incredible vital force: innumerable flowering plants put out vividly coloured blossoms, enticing insects to pollinate them with their strong scents. Dazzling seas of flowers cover the mountain meadows. Snow grouses flock together on their courtship grounds, marmots sun themselves on flat rocks, while ravens perform real aerobatics. The flora and fauna show themselves in all their magnificence and vitality.
Austria enjoys a temperate Central European climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot with cool nights. In Vienna and other low-lying cities temperatures during the day can get very hot over July and August. Winters are cold, below freezing in January and February. The ski season in the Alps runs from December to April but the mountains are also popular with hikers and climbers over the summer when the weather is usually warm and bright.
