Rancho Las Cascadas Riding Holiday
Central Mexico
Mexico
Rancho Las Cascadas is an all-inclusive ranch in the heart of Mexico. Visitors from around the world stay here to experience the true colors of Mexico through exceptional horseback riding and cultural adventures accented by comfortable accommodations, great amenities, fine food and friendly service.
The Ranch sits high above the mountain plains and is nestled amidst more than 500,000 acres of pristine countryside offering limitless guided trails and open-range horseback riding for all abilities. No artist could paint a more perfect landscape. Majestic mountains, open fields, peaceful lake waters, and lush vistas await.
It's always a beautiful day to ride as the area boasts 333 days of sunshine each year and year-round midday temperatures around 75°F/22°C. While riding, stop in one of the pueblos (small towns) for a drink and explore. The wranglers can introduce you to the locals and highlight points of interest.
If you prefer to exchange time in the saddle for a more robust sightseeing, cultural or shopping tour, English-speaking guides will take care of every detail. They are proud to share their history and show off their beautiful country.
And, if relaxing is more your style, spend your day at the Ranch. Unwind with a massage in the spa. Cool off in the infinity pool or soak your muscles in the hot tub. Then, fix a margarita for yourself in the bar…or better yet, have a staff member make one for you!
Various riding programs are at your disposal. Beginner and Advanced riders will be kept in separate riding groups.
A la carte Riding
Most guests choose an "a la carte" vacation experience. This is perfect for riders looking for a less structured riding program or for those who don’t have a full week to spare. They can suit every riding level and will help you mix your own personal cocktail of rides, cultural excursions and relaxation.
There are over 20 different half and full-day riding tours to choose from, so no day is ever the same. This is an ideal option for friends/family who may want to ride together but have different experience levels. They can send two wranglers with a group so that riders are able to split up for brief periods and vary the speed.
The herd of 35 horses range in size and personality - from the most docile (for beginners or those looking to take it easy and relax) to the most zippy (for those who want enjoy the thrill of letting their horse “lay low and open up”).Those who need a break from riding can trade time in the saddle for any of the scheduled cultural excursions, or simply enjoy the pool and other amenities at the Ranch.
Colores de Mexico
A progressive ride for the Novice to Intermediate rider. This stationary ride is run in a “daisy” format. Each day the rides go out, loop around (as in a petal shape) and return to the Ranch in a different direction. Daily rides vary and include everything from relaxing walks on roads through local villages to long, fast canters in wide open fields.
Highland & Canyon Explorer
This is a very unique progressive ride for the Advanced or Expert rider. It offers an incredible opportunity to enjoy a fast-paced ride with ample long canters and gallops. The terrain is varied and during the course of the week you will see an immense range of scenery.

Monday: The Atlantes of Tula
Tula, thought to be the most important Toltec site in Mexico gives a great insight into the rich history of this region. The great Atlantes are four huge warriors (remarkable sculptures over 6 m high) in black basalt on a pyramid. After visiting the archeological site you have will have time for shopping for “Charro” and Western items and to enjoy a fresh fruit ice cream in the “Zocalo” (town square) of the city of Tula.
Tuesday: Teotihuacán
Teotihuacán ("teh-oh-tee-wa-KHAN") is an ancient sacred site. The ruins of are among the most remarkable in Mexico and some of the most important ruins in the world. Constructed around 300 AD, the holy city is characterized by the vast size of its monuments, carefully laid out on geometric and symbolic principles. Many beautiful towns keep you at bay. A traveler can admire, shop, eat, sleep but never break the surface. San Miguel, however, takes you in, befriends you. Here, the town is the thing, the promise of community. The streets and sidewalks are narrow. People talk to each other, engage easily. Colonial charm and style are here in abundance. The architecture and cobbled streets invite a stroll and the shopping is outstanding.

This small town offers a vast market on a Friday, where you can find everything from chilis and sombreros to live sheep and great food. On the way back, stop at some local ceramic and cloth stores for a bargain.

Riding
On some days there are morning and afternoon rides and on others there are all-day rides with some fantastic surprises along the way. Riding groups are kept small - usually four to six riders with a maximum of eight riders per guide. This ride has great flexibility and is suitable for all riding levels, since all riding groups are separated by ability. Advanced riders will join the regular riding itinerary and have the opportunity to enjoy longer and faster paced riding. Less experienced riders can opt go out with a separate guide on shorter or more relaxed rides to ensure that everyone gets the best experience possible. In the evening, everyone meets at the bar and over dinner to swap stories of the day's adventures.Or, if you have a mixed-level group (like a family or group of friends) the ranch staff is able to send you out together as one group but with 2 wranglers, giving you the opportunity to ride together during your stay.
The Horses
The horses are in excellent shape, easy to ride, sure-footed at every pace and trained to accommodate riders at every skill level from absolute beginner to expert rider. Currently there are 35 mixed breed, Criollo, Azteca, Quarter amongst others, suited to confidently handle the variety.
of terrain this wonderful countryside offers. The herd consists of geldings and stallions - but not to worry they are all very well behaved and get along just fine due to the way they can freely roam and form small 'family units'.The corral is located beside the barn and you can spend some time with the horses and help with feeding or grooming whenever you feel like it. After the rides you can treat your horse to a sugar or watch the sunset from the paddock wall. If you love horses you will fall in love with these. Each one has its own character and yet is trained to be responsive with any level of rider. The Wranglers work hard to ensure that the horses are always at their best in terms of fitness and training.
Private Riding Lessons - US$ 30 (50 mins)
Tack
The tack is ‘Charro’ style (similar to Western) and provides an exceptionally comfortable ride.

333 days of sunshine a year

The ranch is situated in a valley at an altitude of 7,500 feet above sea level and protected by high mountains. This means that the weather conditions are very tempered and the sun shines almost every day. The average daily temperature all year round is approximately 24ºC (or 76ºF). However, it is a good idea to bring some long-sleeved shirts or sweaters for the mornings and evenings, as it does get a bit cool before the sun rises and as it sets.
The ranch is open and operating year round. Guests often ask, "Which is the best time of the year to visit?" The answer is simple. Every season has its highlights.
SPRING - March - May
Changes take place. Imagine passing by farmers working the fields in the way they have done for generations. See local farmers start to prepare their fields for the corn crops using ploughs drawn by oxen or horses.
SUMMER - June - August
Known as the 'rainy season', which is (unfortunately for the farmers here) not really the case. The ranch is located in a valley at an altitude of 7500 feet, which means the clouds can't gather as much as in other regions of Mexico. But there is an occasional shower (downpour)that lasts only an hour or two in the evenings/night . This is just enough to allow all of the usually dormant plants to bloom, creating spectacular vistas of vibrant color with cosmos flowers everywhere. The nights are cool and in the morning a bright sunny blue sky awaits you for another perfect ride.
Imagine cantering through millions of cosmos flowers, like floating through a sea of blossoms, the horses almost hidden in the fields covered with pink.
AUTUMN - September - November
Until the dry season begins at the end of October there are still flowers everywhere. As harvest arrives, the local farmers usually let the corn dry until the end of November and then take it in. They use the corn primarily to feed their animals during winter, and they grind part of the crop to make the meal used in the famous Mexican tortillas. Imagine listening to the wind whispering through the dry, high golden corn fields, while you cross between them into the sunset.
WINTER - December - February
The driest season with practically no rain at all. This means that the fields are very dry, painted a golden color against a brilliant blue sky, spotted with green cactus and mesquite bushes the exception. Imagine riding through fields set afire by the setting sun as you ride in the late afternoon. It's a spectacular image you will never forget.

All year round at midday we have temperatures of approximately 24ºC (or 76ºF). However, it is a good idea to bring some long-sleeved shirts or sweaters for the mornings and evenings, as it does get a bit cool before the sun rises and as it sets. Don’t forget your swimming suit, if you would like to use the hot tub or swim with the horses (depending on the weather).
For riding, we recommend jeans and short boots. Tennis shoes are not really apt for riding as your foot may get stuck in the stirrups and may not be comfortable. If you would like, you can buy short leather boots in the local markets for about US$ 25 to US$ 50 depending on the size and quality.
You may want to wear a pair of bicycle pants underneath your jeans if you are a beginner or have not been riding for a long time. It will help prevent rubs.
The ranch does not provide riding helmets, so you will have to bring one along if you want to use one. Most people simply wear sombreros to protect against the sun as it can be really hot beneath the black helmets. You can purchase sombreros at the markets as well.
The sun at 7500 feet is very strong. Sun cream with high protection factor is recommended to be used daily. The ranch itself is fumigated against mosquitoes and there are normally not many around.
Laundry services are offered for an additional charge.
Also provided in every room: a hairdryer (110 V), shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap, towels, bathrobe and drinking water.
The electricity voltage at the Ranch is 110V, the same as in the USA.
