Hotel Capitan Suizo - Tamarindo Beach
Guanacaste
Costa Rica
Playa Tamarindo is one of the most beautiful beaches of the pacific coast of Costa Rica. It is situated adjacent to “Las Baulas Marine National Park”, which is one of the most important nesting places on the planet for the giant Leatherback turtles. These turtles are the biggest kind of sea turtle in the world.
The hotel Capitan Suizo is an environmentally conscious and future oriented beach Hotel in Playa Tamarindo.
It is an ideal place for relaxation that carries a tropical ambience and lies amongst a lush garden. With a discreet elegance and a touch of Swiss quality that blends with an informal and joyful atmosphere, Capitan Suizo is an oasis where it is implicit that nature and animals are integrated with love and respect.
Capitan Suizo is located directly on the beach in a privileged area 1 km outside of town and at the end of the bay.
In 1992 the owners of Capitan Suizo, Ursula and Ruedi Schmid, left Switzerland and moved to Costa Rica with their two children in search of new challenges and new adventures. They fell in love with an untouched piece of land full of tropical vegetation and some beautiful old trees, directly on the beach of a sleepy little fishermen’s town. After three years of “hand made” construction the dream of a small jewel, in touch with nature and in harmony with the country’s and its people’s philosophy was borne.
The hotel’s philosophy lays importance on supporting the local communities and the local nature and wildlife. More than 95 percent of the sixty employees are Costa Rican and most of them are from the region of Guanacaste. The hotel doesn’t use any pesticides in the garden and thanks to the protected old trees the hotel is often visited by wildlife such as howler monkeys, squirrels, a wide variety of birds, racoons, garrobos, iguanas and armadillos.

There is a passageway connecting the Beach House with Captain Suizo and the guests of this house can use the facilities with the hotel freely.
Restaurant and Bar
The thatched-roofed, open air restaurant and bar are located right in front of the beach. The restaurant offers a large selection of a la carte menu for lunch and dinner with international cuisine and traditional dishes from Costa Rica. The chef gives great importance to using fresh ingredients like vegetables, fruits, and fish as well as cooking the dishes a la "Minute". Fresh, homemade bread, a wide selection of fresh fruits and juices are part of the breakfast.
Philosophy
Since 1995 I have been “Chef de cuisine” at Capitan Suizo.
In my early days I was lucky to learn my vocation from excellent chefs. This is one of the reasons why after more than 30 years of practicing my profession, I am still cooking with heart and soul.
The Capitan Suizo's environmental philosophy of respect for nature is integrated into the principles of our food preparation. For this reason, I prefer to use organically grown products when possible, and I do not offer dishes made from species which are in danger of extinction. We offer a wide variety of interesting dishes such as Tilapia rolls gratinated with herb butter, cucumber Gazpacho with natural yogurt and shrimp, fish-fondue and Rösti served with mushroom cream sauce.
Savour our selections whilst enjoying the charming ambience of our open-air restaurant.
