Cumbria Lake District Trails
Cumbria
England
With mountains, lakes, wide open
beaches and a wealth of flora and fauna, Cumbria is rich and unique.
This new point to point horseback riding vacation through the lake
district will inspire you - from dramatic fells to sleepy shores, this
nature is at its most inventive. Unexpected pleasures lie hidden, like
a treasure waiting to be discovered. Ride in the heart of the rugged
landscape with some luxury at night. From witches to poets, the
cultural history of the region is as diverse as it is fascinating. We
ride the most beautiful parts of the Lake District on horseback staying
at local B&Bs and Inns along the way. We cover around 120 miles over
6 days so, as you can imagine the terrain changes on a daily basis as
we climb fells and drop down into valleys, seeing some of the most
inaccessible parts of the Lake District. Explore a landscape that
leaves you on a high. Places on all trails will be limited to 8 per
ride so early booking is essential. All rides will be escorted by 2
fully qualified and experienced ride escorts.

The Lake District
has comparatively moderate differences in temperature throughout the
year, which is due to its maritime climate. The Lake District’s
valleys have an average temperature which ranges from approximately
3° C in January to approximately 15° C in July, while the higher
lying areas experience a bit more fluctuations in temperature. The Lake District is
England’s wettest region - so come prepared with your rain gear. That
being said ... the sun does come up and the days are glorious.

This trip includes lodgings in lovely B&Bs and country inns. All
meals are provided from a typical big English breakfast, a trail picnic
lunch or a stop at an inn, to a high quality meals with natural
ingredients from the area.
There
is no single room supplement, but depending on numbers, it is not always
possible to have a single private room on all nights of the trip.
Accommodations along the trail may vary at different dates, but here are some of the accommodations we use on a regular basis:
Boots & Board B&B:
'Boots and Boards' is in Silecroft, a small village a few miles north
of the small town of Millom on the quiet west coast of Cumbria. The
village lies in the Lake District National Park. It was built at
the turn of the century and was a working farmhouse until the 1980s. It
retains many of its original features including the magnificent open
fireplace in the guest sitting room. The house has been sensitively
adapted for bed and breakfast using environmentally friendly materials
wherever possible. There are four guest bedrooms, all on the first
floor. Each room has its own TV, and help-yourself tea and coffee. 2
rooms have private bath and the other 2 share one bath - both rooms
have their own wash hand basin.
New Dungeon Ghyll: The
New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, situated nestling beneath Harrison
Stickle, Pike of Stickle and Jaques Rake at the head of the formed
Langdale Valley. Set amidst The Lake District's most dramatic fells in
the picturesque Langdale Valley, the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel nestles
beneath the Langdale Pikes and Pavey Ark in six acres of mature gardens
and pasture. The hotel is of historical interest being built on the
site of a medieval settlement and it enjoys the most breathtaking views
at every point of the compass.
All bedrooms enjoy the most dramatic of views, whether over Stickle
Beck as it tumbles down the fellside, to the Pikes themselves all
dominant and brooding or Lingmoor as she forms the long south easterly
side of the valley.
The rooms are individually furnished which reflects the family nature
of the hotel, and our concern for detail in making your stay most
enjoyable.
Wasdale Head Inn: The Inn is situated at the head of remote and unspoiled Wasdale, and if
you are seeking the superlative this is where you will find it.
England's highest mountain, the deepest lake, the smallest Church, and
the original world's biggest liar can all be found in this tranquil
corner of the Lake District. The hotel has 10 newly refurbished bedrooms in the main building,
plus two superior apartments, seven self-catering apartments in the
adjacent attractively converted traditional Lakeland Barn.
The apartments have been carefully designed to retain the original
character of the old buildings whilst offering modern standards of
comfort. There are no televisions in the hotel, however all apartments have
TV reception and most apartments have a video player/recorder. Internet access is available on request.
Seathwaite Lodge:
Seathwaite Lodge is in the heart of the Duddon Valley. John and Gail
Batten welcome you to Seathwaite Lodge, a traditional Lakeland barn
converted to a high standard of comfort. Next door to the lodge is the
Newfield Inn where good food and a variety of cask ales can be enjoyed
all day in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
