Nature Park Hike in the Dolomites
Northern Italy
Italy
Experiencing nature – idyllic Mountain lakes, lush Mountain pastures, green forests and the legendary Dolomites will guide you through three Nature Parks during your hike. Not without reason, were the Dolomites declared a Natural World heritage site. As a preamble to the hike, we will introduce you to the splendours of Sexten, the valley of the Mountain climbers and Mountain guides. Naturally, an excursion to the “Drei Zinnen” cannot be left out, the encompassing hike around the celebrated Trident promises fascinating impressions of the Sexten Mountain ranges of the Dolomites. All those who believe that nothing more can top this experience, be well advised that high above Cortina, the pearl of the Dolomites you can view and glance over some of the most striking summits. The Cristallo Group of Mountain peaks; the Pinnacle on Mount Tofane and the summits around the Fanes Mountains, all wrestle for the attention of the observer. Finally, you are greeted by Lake Prags “Pragser Wildsee”, in whose crystal clear waters the whitewashed walls of the Seekofels Mountain, are mirrored.

Day 2: Alta Pusteria – Helm - Sexten
approx. 450 m in altitude / approx. 5 hours (approx. 13 km) or 200 m in altitude / approx. 3 hours (approx. 8 km)
After a transfer to Sexten, a cable car will take you up the “Helm”, the resident mountain of Sexten. On your hike along the “Karnischer Kamm” (a Mountain Range resembling a comb), you can enjoy an exclusive view of the Dolomites from the opposite side including the famed Sexten “Sonnenuhr”, a group of peaks forming an almost perfect sun-dial. Once over the “Klammbachalm” (mountain pasture), you comfortably hike down through the valley to your hotel in Sexten. Hikers can choose an easier variation of today’s hiking route. Take the transfer to Innichen from where you can hike in the shadows of the larches, along forest trails and turn inwards along to Sexten valley renowned for producing numerous mountain climbing dynasties such as the Innerkofler family.
Day 3: Sexten – Rotwandwiesen – Kreuzbergpass – Sexten
approx. 400 m in altitude / approx. 5 hours (approx. 15 km)
The starting point on this day begins at the Rotwandwiesen, an alpine pasture surrounded by famous Dolomites mountain peaks. Below the Sexten Rotwand, the hiking tour which leads the way to the Kreuzbergpass, the provincial border between the provinces of Bozen-South Tyrol and Belluno is located. Continuing with the hike to Nemesalm before returning to Sexten, you will gaze over a varied landscape amid forests, marshes and glades with the Dolomites serving as a backdrop and completing an exceptional image.
Day 4: Sexten - Drei Zinnen – Auronzo – Misurina
approx 1.400 m in altitude / approx. 6 hours (approx. 16 km)
The day begins with ease with a hike through one of the finest Valleys, the “Fischleintal” within the Sexten Nature Park. At the elevated “Talschlusshütte” (“End-of-the-valley-hut”), at the foot of the “Einserkofels” summit, the hike continues along “Altensteintal”, in the direction of the “Paternkofel” summit, the region where severe fighting took place during the First World War. Appearing from nowhere, you are suddenly faced with the “Drei Zinnen”, the most well-known Rock formation in the Dolomites. During this hiking trip, you have the possibility to examine the blocks of rock from all sides before taking the bus from Auronzo to Misurina. At the picturesque Lake Misurina, you can finish off the day with an ice cream or an Italian Cappuccino.
Day 5: Misurina – Passo Tre Croci – Faloria - Cortina d’Ampezzo
approx. 500 m altitude / approx. 3 hours (approx. 6 km)
At the beginning the transfer takes you directly to Passo Tre Croci. The hike leads through the Sorapis Mountain Range, located above the major resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo. The panorama has an understated elegance and is simply incredible. The colossal, gigantic rocks of the Ampezzaner Dolomites push high into the sky. The Monte Cristallo with its Mountain ranges; the Tofane Mountain and the Fanes Range are the principal performers in this spectacular play. By train or by foot, you will be captivated on reaching Cortina with its unique position surrounded by the well-known summits. The day can be ended by strolling through the “Corso Italia” amidst rows of exclusive shopping conveniences and grand hotels.
Day 6: Cortina – Nature Park Fanes Sennes Prags – Plätzwiese/Prags
approx: 850 m in altitude / approx. 5 hours (approx. 12 km)
You hike through the largest Nature Park in the Dolomites, “Fanes Sennes Prags” today. The bizarre and fascinating fables according to legends of the ancient tribes of Fanes Empire are relevant here. The alpine pasture “Plätzwiese”, together with the Hohe Gaisl; and the Kreuzkofelgruppe, count as the most treasured and revered hiking areas in the country. The charismatic magnetism of the unusual flora and natural lakes, have an enthralling charm on the discerning visitor.
Day 7: Plätzwiese/Prags – Pragser Wildsee – Niederdorf/Toblach
approx. 550 m in altitude / approx. 5,5 hours (approx. 13km)
The hike in Prags Valley is lead along the imposing Mountain walls of the smaller Gaisl Mountain down to the idyllic “Pragser Wildsee”. The valley will fascinate the sightseer with its dark-needled coniferous forests, the whitewashed walls of the Mountain rocks and the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Lake. You will be transferred in the late afternoon to the hotel of your first day of arrival in Niederdorf/ Toblach.
