The vast unbroken stretch of ocean to the west and
south of the South American continent leaves the Patagonian Andes very
exposed to the saturated winds that circle the Antarctic landmass.
Also, the strong marine influence makes the weather hard to predict. In
spring (Oct-Nov) or early summer (Dec) fine weather may deteriorate
almost without warning, bringing rain and eventually snow. Even in
summer (December to March) you should come prepared to find cold-
strong winds (up to 80 km/hr) and rainfalls. In summer the average
temperature is 11ºC/ 52ºF ( 24 ºC max, 2ºC min)

Trekking
in Patagonia requires that you bring comfortable and adequate clothing to
protect you from cold (and possibly wet) weather. We recommend that you layer
with synthetic clothing (such as polypropylene, Capilene, or pile). Synthetic
fabrics are the most effective barriers against the cold. They provide the best
insulation, they are light in weight, wick away perspiration, and dry quickly if
wet. Wool and wool/synthetic blends are also suitable. We discourage the use of
cotton garments in cold or wet mountain conditions.
When layering, the innermost layer should be
long underwear. The middle layer can be a synthetic turtleneck or wool shirt,
and pant s. The outermost layer should be a synthetic or down jacket, and/or a
good quality Gore-Tex wind/rain parka and over-pants.
We have not included quantities for each item
listed. Use your own judgment, based on the expected weather conditions, the
length of your trip and overall packing/weight restrictions for your luggage.
Comfortable walking shoes to
wear while in towns.
Luggage, Clothing & Travel
Accessories
Try to go as light as possible
and take only the essentials. Excess baggage can be a burden to you and
to our support personnel. Keep in mind that there are limits on how much your
duffel bag can weigh because of weight restrictions on both international and
domestic flights (usually 30 kg/60 lbs.). While you are camping, your city
clothes can be safely stored in a separate duffel bag at our office in Puerto
Natales or at the
Luggage
Duffel bag. We ask that you bring one duffel bag for your gear with a lock. Make
sure your duffel is sturdy and water-resistant.
Daypack. It should have a capacity of 20 to 30 liters (1500 to 2000 cubic
inches), and can double as your carry-on bag.
Spare roll- up duffel. Consider bringing a small, roll- up nylon duffel
(lockable) to store your city clothes.
Photo &
Video Gear
The weather changes very quickly and the sky is often overcast. The light
quality and conditions constantly change, requiring a wide range of film speeds.
Bringing the right camera and film will determine the quality of your
photographs of the trip. A good SLR camera with telephoto lens is ideal. Lenses
longer than 300mm will require a tripod for good results and may be too
cumbersome to lug around. Bring a mixture of fast and slower film. Long lenses
require faster film, so consider 200 ISO (ASA) for a larger lens in low- light
conditions, and use slower 64 ISO (ASA) film for superior color slides. One
disadvantage of low ISO (ASA) film is that you may need a tripod or beanbag to
steady the camera during early morning and evening shots. Many people like to
bring small point-and-shoot cameras for their lighter weight and size.

Camp
Located in the heart of Torres del Paine, the camp consists of tented igloo-type domes built to minimize the environmental impact while providing a comfortable setting and maximum exposure to nature.
There are three Core Domes all connected with the dormitory domes by raised wooden walkways. There is electricity available for charging just camera batteries (voltage: 220 Volts at 50 Hertz, two round pins plug).

Dining takes place at two connected Giant Domes, each 9 meter / 30 feet in diameter and 4.5 m / 14.8 ft tall. The space inside is bright ans airy with large windows offering a panoramic view of the Paine granite towers. Each of the Core Domes has a low-emission wood stove. There is a bar, three different resting areas and a small shop.

A separate resting room of 6 m/ 19.5 ft in diameter contains a small library where guests can sit, chat, read and relax. This dome is the meeting place for organized groups where the guides can show guests the different trekking routes and wildlife watching spots.

The Core Domes are surrounded by ample terraces to sit, read, smoke, talk and even enjoy a cocktail outdoors.
Following the platforms there is an "asado" where every Saturday evening the Baqueanos (locak Patagonian cowboys) prepare a genuine lam barbecue.

We proudly prepare and serve exquisite and genuine cuisine, including options for vegetarians and those with other dietary restrictions, prepared by three chefs that have been born and raised in Patagonia.

Suite Domes
The 28mt2/ 300 ft2 tented igloo-type double domes with private bathroom will have everything clients need for a comfortable stay. There will be two single beds (1.2 x 2m beds) or a king size bed (1.9x 2m), and a modern low-emission wood stove that will keep the place warm. Bathrooms will be well equipped and will have towels available. For sustainable purposes clients will keep the same towels and blankets during their stay. Additionally, since the Suite Domes will be powered with solar panel generators, there will be no electric capacity to plug devices such as hair dryers, electric shavers, etc, nevertheless camera batteries can be charged in other facilities at the Camp. The Suite Dome will be nicely decorated with natural fibers and other elements from the local culture.
