Provence Ventoux Country
Provence
France
Far
from the crowds, come discover the region of La Provence, filled with
its natural and man-made wonders: tasty olives, romantic wine vineyards, delightful lavender scents, fresh apricots
and thousands of years of history. In this one week trip you will go from the
beauty and history of Avignon’s Papal fortified center and journey to the Roman past of
Vaison-la-Romaine. Walking along this trail, you’ll discover not only the
world-famous Côtes-du-Rhône wine villages of Gigondas, Vacqueyras and
Beaumes-de-Venise around the Dentelles de Montmirail, but also lesser known
wonders, hidden gems, all nestled under the Mont Ventoux.
Our
Road Book includes a detailed itinerary of each day’s walking route and a practical
map. We will let you in on our “great addresses” and our “favourites”, propose a
selection of restaurants, places to visit, and a
few suggested artists and craftsmen. We also help
you with the more pragmatic side of a trip by including a list of food stores,
post offices, and banks. Included in a Self-Guided Trip is also our 24-hour
emergency phone number.
Easy level of walking with some climbs (4-5 hours daily).

Mediterranean Climate...
The Provençal climate is characterized by the bright and ever-present Provençal sun. The winds and rains, though sporadic, can be quite strong.
Winter is most often mild and sunny, with incredibly clear skies. A
great season for walking and cycling, and incredible lighting: Alpilles,
Dentelles de Montmirail, Luberon, the islands and the Côte d’Azur.
Autumn & Spring, with their summer-like days, can sometimes bring
with them more abundant rains. Magnificent seasons to explore Provence
by bike or by foot.
Summer is very hot and dry, with occasional thunderstorms that cool the
air. Walking is great in the interior of Provence, above 1000 m (3300
ft) in altitude to avoid the heat: Cevennes, Alpes de Haute Provence,
back country of Nice, Mercantour nature park…
Cycle through all of Provence in the mornings and late afternoons,
coasting with the gentle breeze; get a good sieste in the shade of the
plane trees during the hottest part of the day.
The mistral is a strong and turbulent wind that blows in gusts. It
cools the hot summers and produces a brisk chill in the winter. It is
always accompanied by the sun, an intense blue sky, and spectacular
visibility.
