Day 1 - Inverness to the Isle of Lewis
We travel to the Isle of Lewis traversing the northern Highlands and taking a ferry across The Minch to the Outer Hebrides. Our destination is the Butt of Lewis, where a small crofting community clings to the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Throughout the trip, the islanders' tradition of Gaelic hospitality will be evident, as will the beauty, peace and tranquillity of the islands. A short afternoon walk to the Butt of Lewis introduces you to the delights of walking in the Outer Hebrides. (L, D)
Day 2 - Carloway and Callanish
A morning walk along the wild coastline precedes a visit to the wellpreserved Iron Age fortress at Carloway. We follow this with a spiritually moving exploration of the ancient stone circles at Callanish, set high on a moor with a backdrop of sea and mountains. (8 km, 5 hrs). (B,L,D)
Day 3 - The Sands of Uig and West Lewis
We explore wonderful Sands of Uig and the rugged hills immediately south of them. If conditions are suitable, we may ascend Mealisval, the highest of these peaks. Although this ascent would be a moderate graded walk, it gives a tremendous vantage point with vast beaches, remote glens and rugged peaks creating a real wilderness landscape. (11 km, 5 hrs). Day 4 – The Glens of North Harris
North Harris is one of the most spectacular areas of the Outer Hebrides. We will spend they day exploring the glens and beaches, perhaps visiting the white sands of Huisinis or hiking into the glens to see the massive cliffs of Sron Uladal. A wonderful day whichever route we choose! (12km, 5 hrs). (B,L,D)
Day 5 – Beaches & Machair of Harris
Today we walk on the ‘machair’ of Harris, the Gaelic name for the coastal hinterland which in summer is a carpet of wild flowers. We climb Toe Head (365m), high above beach of Traigh Scarasta, from where St. Kilda can be seen jutting out of the Atlantic horizon. We then visit the famous sands of Luskintyre where we relax and enjoy fine views to the island of Taransay, the setting for the BBC’s "Castaway" series, before taking the ferry to Skye late afternoon and moving to our next accommodation. (6 km, 3 hrs). (B,L)
Day 6 – Quirang & the Old Man of Storr
After enjoying breakfast with views out across the sea, we set out to explore the stark and unusual landscapes of the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr on foot. We will also visit Kilt Rock and the charming village of Staffin on this relaxing day. (8 km, 3 hrs); (B,L)
Day 7 – Walking on Skye; Return to Inverness
Following breakfast, we travel south to spectacular Glen Sligachan, where there is time for a short hike beneath the mighty peaks of the Black Cuillin and the Red Cuillin, which flank either side of the glen. Then we cross the bridge back to the mainland, and make our way back to Inverness via the Loch Ness and the Great Glen, arriving in Inverness late afternoon. (B,L)

Important - Trip Grading
This itinerary is graded as ‘Easy’. Our "Easy" walking holidays involve straightforward hiking, following generally good trails with no major ascents. You will, however, be out walking for around 5 hours each day so you will need a reasonable level of fitness.
The walks will be conducted at a leisurely pace in order to allow more time for photography, nature study and looking historical features. The underfoot terrain will usually be on paths or hill trails. However, these trails may still be muddy, or a bit rough in places, so you will need good hillwalking boots.
The daily walks will mainly be glen and coastal hikes, with some ascents of low level hills, up to around 1,500 feet / 450m high - on the islands, these hills are superb viewpoints. To help you decide if you are fit enough for this trip, ask yourself:
Can you comfortably hike for 6 miles (10km), including some ascent, with rough ground in places? When did you last do this?

Group Size
Group size is limited to 8 clients as we believe this makes it easier for our  guides to offer personal attention and wildlife-viewing possibilities are also enhanced. Our groups vary widely in terms of age and walking experience and this diversity always adds to the holiday experience. Over half of our clients join on their own so these trips are a great way to meet like-minded people.

When the sun shines in Scotland, it is the best place in the world to be! And although the Scottish climate is renowned for its variability, it is not nearly as rainy as you may think. Even if you get caught in the rain, you will see waterfalls and rivers come to life, and the mountains take on an atmospheric appearance which can be very dramatic.
During spring and early summer, meadows of wild flowers bring an abundance of colours to the landscape and it is a great time to experience Scotland’s rich wildlife and birdlife. May and June are the driest and sunniest months and a recommended time to visit Scotland, with normal daytime temperatures of 15 – 18°C. The northerly latitude also means that Scotland enjoys 4 hours more daylight than London, with the most northerly regions barely getting dark during the weeks around midsummer.
July & August are the warmest months with normal daytime temperatures of 18 – 22°C. This is a popular time to visit Scotland but our trips are based in genuine wilderness areas far from the crowds. Scotland’s famous purple heather is at its best in late August, especially in areas such as the Cairngorms.
Late summer brings generally settled weather as we pass into September and October, with normal daytime temperatures of 14 – 18°C. Autumnal colours begin to emerge with birch and rowan trees throwing up particularly bright colours which complement the reddish hue of the hillsides, roamed by well-camouflaged red deer.

The following lists are designed to help your preparation and packing for your trip. The list is not exhaustive and, given the range of personal references, does not include all clothing that you will be required for general use, evening wear etc.

Having suitable equipment and clothing will help make your trip even more enjoyable, especially if the weather is less than perfect at any time.

PERSONAL FIRST AID KIT
The following is a list of recommended items. Although most of these items are generally available along the route, it is always more convenient to have a ready supply. This is particularly relevant to any specialist medication.

We recognise that sometimes it is difficult to decide exactly what to bring and what will be most suitable. We are, of course, pleased to advise based on our experience so do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries at all.

This itinerary is based in 3 different locations throughout the course of the week, with 2 nights on Lewis, 2 on Harris and 2 on Skye.
Our accommodation on Lewis is the 4-star Galson Farm Guest House, an 18th Century farmhouse. On Harris, we will stay in 4-star Beul na Mara Guest House, which lies on the edge of a wonderful white sand beach overlooking the island of Taransay.
Our accommodation on the Isle of Skye is the 3-star Stein Inn, the oldest Inn on Skye with spectacular views across the water to Dunvegan Head.
Each of the accommodations offer double and twin rooms mainly with ensuite facilities.
Throughout the journey, varied island produce will be served up in hearty and imaginative meals. Seafood is a speciality with beef, lamb and venison also popular and of course, any special dietary requirements can be catered for. The Stein Inn prides itself on its range of malts and local ales.
Please note that all meals are included in the price of this holiday with the exception of the two evening meals on Skye. The Stein Inn has a wide choice of local dishes, and by not including the cost of these meals in the holiday price, you will have the opportunity to sample the full range of the delicious menu.

We do not charge single person supplements to people booking on their own. However you will be expected to share a room with another person of the same sex. Please note that on this trip there are no single rooms available.

Passports
Passport valid for at least three months beyond length of stay required by all nationals referred to in the chart except:
1. EU nationals holding a valid national ID card.
Note: EU nationals are only required to produce evidence of their EU nationality and identity in order to be admitted to any EU Member State. This evidence can take the form of a valid national passport or national identity card. Either is acceptable. Possession of a return ticket, any length of validity on their document, sufficient funds for the length of their proposed visit should not be imposed.
Passport Note
(a) A passport is not required for travel between Great Britain and Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. (b) Passengers transiting the UK destined for the Republic of Ireland are advised to hold return tickets to avoid delay and interrogation.
