El Dorado Estancias Ride
Corrientes
Argentina
Corrientes is a place where gauchos still drive cattle and horses from one place to another. It's a place where men on horseback calculate distances in terms of the hours they think they'll need to ride them. The Corrientes hinterland is a flat grassland that hides water around every corner and where the only signs of civilization are fences and occasional outpost houses.
It's the land of EL DORADO (the mythical realm of a gold-attired king sought by the Spanish conquistadores), a place where the lone rider's only companions are the fat cattle in the lush green fields, the owls on the fence posts, the water birds and frogs in the marshes and an occasional Cayman that was left in a lake by the crest of some flood.
The ride is an introduction to the spice and adventure of Corrientes' rural life, with comfortable overnight stays at four different estancias. The flat terrain make this ride an ideal experience for people who like to canter and gallop during their riding vacations. More than 20 miles are covered each day; mostly at a trot or canter.

Pre Departure: We can arrange airport transfers, city tour, tango show, Horse Opera and more for you in Buenos Aires.
Day 1: Meeting in the late afternoon in downtown Buenos Aires. A bilingual guide specialized in the history, arts, and architecture of the city will take you on a 3 hour city tour to see all the important sites ( a minimum of 2 participants is required for the city tour). We then drop you off at the bus depot for the 8:55 PM luxury sleeper bus transfer to Esquina, arriving the next day at 4:30 AM. (meals available, but not included)
Day 2: Arrival in Esquina and transfer to Estancia La Rosita. After resting up and a good breakfast, choose your steed, saddle up and go on a short introductory trail ride. After lunch, choose to do some more riding or you can opt for some Polo training at the nearby Polo Club. La Rosita is an isolated ranch house where you will forget city problems. The tall, opulent forest of native trees surround the main houses and barbecue area, creating a cozy, protected atmosphere. Later, enjoy a luxurious candlelight dinner in the dining room of the 19th century wing of the ranch house.
Day 3: Today you start your horseback adventure with a ride from ‘La Rosita’ to ‘La Amistad’ covering approximately 22 miles. Riding time is five hours. At lunch time you are treated to a fabulous lamb barbecue picnic. In the evening the hosts will spoil your at the ranch with a relaxing massage session (included).
Day 4: The second part of your journey on horseback takes you to ‘Buena Vista’ Farm. It’s again a long day in the saddle with lunch on the way consisting of delicacies like pate and sausages. You can rest under the trees at the entrance to the property, and later, at the swimming pool; have tea under the Magnolia tree and visit the owner’s pheasant and wild duck raising operation. Approximately five hours of riding.
Day 5: Leaving ‘Buena Vista’ Farm very early in the morning, you ride towards ‘La Teresita’ Farm. On the way, have lunch at a typical roadside general store called ‘Boliche de Campo’ or ‘Pulperia’. Tonight is spend at ‘La Teresita’ Farm where you can choose between a special moonlight ride on horseback or a ride in a sulky – if you still have the energy - or to have a drink in a general store with other gauchos. Otherwise just spend a quiet evening at this remote farm house. Approximately six hours of riding.
Day 6: Today’s ride takes you through pastures, pampas grasslands and native forests to the Corrientes River. Lunch and siesta at the river's bank overlooking this beautiful stretch of water - “Carrera de sortijas”. Ride back to Estancia La Teresita. Return journey to Estancia La Rosita by van. Dinner accompanied by a regional folkloric group. Landscape of the day: native forest, lagoons, Pampa (extensive plain) and the Corrientes River. Approximate 3 riding hours today.
Day 7: Today you start with a leisurely morning to relax from the long riding days of the week. Laze around, go for a swim and enjoy a last canter in the now well known countryside. Depending on your preferences, today’s ride takes you to marshes or lagoons; through large native and planted forests. If you prefer you can spend the day with Oscar (the chief of the gauchos, "Capataz" in Spanish), who probably has already become your friend over the last days. Round up cattle, ride fence, or ride the range for strays.
Day 8: After breakfast, if you are interested in Polo, we will take to the Polo field and teach you the basic rules and hits of Polo. We practice and you can attempt your first Polo match! After lunch we practice some more and participate in a "Polo Match". After everyone is tired, we enjoy a cup of tea at the edge of the polo field - relax and get ready for our farewell dinner at the Estancia. We then take you to your overnight luxury sleeper bus at 10:30 PM. Snacks are provided on the bus.
Day 9: Arrival in Buenos Aires at 6:30 AM and transfer to your city hotel - end of services.

City Tour details:
CLASSIC CITY TOUR
Some of the tour highlights
San Telmo - Monserrat - La Boca - Retiro - Recoleta - Palermo - Puerto Madero
We’ll embark on a journey through time as we learn about the historical evolution of the city and the constituent elements of its traditional idiosyncrasy (immigration, tango, folklore, football and popular culture, among others), and discover the exciting wonders hidden in the heart of its most colorful and traditional districts.
Our tour begins at Plaza de Mayo, where the city was first founded. There we’ll admire the emblematic Pink House, the Cathedral and the Cabildo (Colonial Town Hall). Our visit of the city’s most traditional districts continues as we head for San Telmo, where we make the must see tour of its antique shops and visit Plaza Dorrego, in the heart of this colonial district, where every Sunday a traditional street antiques fair is hosted. Later, we’ll pay a visit to La Boca to see the splendidly colorful houses on mythical Caminito Street. Then, we’ll head for Puerto Madero, a renovated docklands area, surely the newest and maybe the trendiest part of Buenos Aires’ barrios. Then we’ll head for Retiro and Recoleta, where we’ll have the chance to see the splendid San Martín Square, surrounded by landmarks built during our country’s very own Belle Époque, like the former Paz Palace (now the Military Society), the San Martín Palace and the Plaza Hotel. Then, we’ll head for the aristocratic district of La Recoleta, where we’ll admire the distinguished Alvear Avenue, stopping at the Paseo del Pilar to pay a visit to the ancient Church of Nuestra Señora del Pilar and the legendary La Recoleta Cemetery. As we continue on towards Palermo, we’ll have the chance to admire the parks designed by world-famous French landscape artist Charles Thais for the May Revolution Centenary, as well as the sumptuous palaces that have graced Buenos Aires with that distinctive Parisian atmosphere.
Drop off at the bus terminal for your transfer to Esquina.

As part of the subtropical area of Mesopotamia, the province of Corrientes has heavy rains and high temperatures with little daily and seasonal variation especially in the North, and no dry season. The Southern part of the province presents some signs of the neighbouring more temperate weather of the Pampas.
Corrientes is surrounded by two rivers, the Uruguay River to the east, and the Paraná River to the northwest, that contour the shape of the province. The low shore of the Paraná produces frequent floodings. After the especially destructive flood in 1982, a protective system has been started with the construction of barriers.
The province is for the most part a plain, with the highest points in the east. To the west, a series of descending platforms go down to the Paraná River. The Iberá Wetlands, an area of lagoons and swamps, is a vast depression from volcanic flow, covered later with fluvial and eolic sediments.

Overnights are at 4 different Estancias:
Estancia La Rosita
Location: 620km Northeast from the Federal Capital, Esquina, Province of Corrientes “Argentine Mesopotamia”.
Well-known to offer comfort, the Rosita is an old estancia of typically correntino style, ceilings low and ample galleries. It has been ten years since the estancia first opened its doors to visitors and has since showed them the Corrientes province and its enchantments. Here is where the journey from one authentic estancia to the next starts. Power in the Estancia: Our own engine and electric generator, 220W.
There are single, double and triple rooms with private bathrooms.
Meals consist of regional and international gastronomy and can cater to special diets. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are included.
Estancia La Amistad:
The Estancia Amistad with its imposing colonial style, is probably the one with the most modern aspect. After this first day of ‘cabalgata’, your hosts await you with massages and an excellent selection of food.
Estancia Buena Vista:
Located in the highest hills of the area, you will spot Estancia Buena Vista’s woods from a far distance. Featuring the typical colonial style and an enormous park of tropical plants, you will surely enjoy excellent service and very comfortable rooms.
Estancia La Teresita:
Following a fire, the estancia has been completely renovated. With an ample atmosphere and the right mixture between old and modern style, at the Teresita you will surely enjoy the last day of your cabalgata before you return to “la Rosita”.
This trip includes
some wine with dinner
and can accommodate special dietary requests.
