Transfer Option:

Day 1 Arrival in Fès and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 In the morning you visit the Medina of Fes. This old medina is spectacular and transports the visitor back to the middle ages. After lunch in a small restaurant in Medina a car takes you to Ifrane, a town built in 1929 by the French. This tiny town, with its pointy rooftops and flowery alleys, sits at a height of 1700 meters above the sea. Ifrane is very popular for its beautiful summer climate. The horses wait for us by a lake - if the winter was wet enough - while we explore this quaint village. In the afternoon we spend more time acquainting ourselves with the horses. Overnight in tents.
Day 3 The day starts at the plain of the lakes. These lakes find their origin in the cool cedar forests and there is the option of bathing or swimming in these clear waters. In the forest there are many kinds of birds, the famous grey swoons of the atlas and a few wild boars, which we may see occasionally. In the afternoon, we leave the cedar woods to enter a forest of oak trees. The day ends on a dry and rocky plain where we sleep in tents.
Day 4 We reach the Tchachoukt Mountains quickly and follow our route through a canyon up to a spring. We travel through many small valleys and between big cedars where the grass can grow up to a meter high. In the evening, we reach Djbel Agbalou and it is here that we may see exceptionally big cedars that are more than a meter in diameter. Only a few lucky trees have the chance to grow so old; in this area the sheep and goats eat most of the young trees. We descend via narrow mountain paths, providing a splendid vista of the clear blue sky and lakes of the big lake called Aglman Sidi Ali. We sleep in tents.
Day 5 In the morning we ride to the heart of the great grassy plains where we have lots of opportunities for gallops. This is the empire of the Nomads as there is not a single village in the vicinity. We meet occasional lonely tents on our way as well as huge herds of sheep and goat and perhaps even a herd of camels. In the afternoon, the horses take a break and we have the chance to refresh ourselves at the foot of the mountain. Again we camp at Lake Aglamame Sidi Ali, with the chance to swim with our horses. Don't miss this splendid opportunity! We sleep in tents again.
Day 6 Today we leave the lake area. A nice and quiet valley takes you to the volcanic plane of Bekrite. Rocks of petrified lava are everywhere and act as the soil for many local herbs. The ground here slowly rises to an altitude of 2000 meters. The green grass growing between the black volcanic stone is an impressive contrast of nature. It is here where the nomads still live in their clay houses with their herds in the close vicinity. We camp at the side of a river.
Day 7 Today is again more agriculture and bigger villages but between each valley there are wild mountains, gorges, cedarwoods or stoney planes. This longest riding day of the week is very diverse in terrain. You see some land carved by heavy erosion: red, yellow and brown mountain ranges can be seen on the horizon beyond scattered salt lakes. Near the end we climb down to the springs of the river Oum-Erbia: 40 little springs come together here to create a big wild river and this famous Moroccan site. There are many little cafes beside the river where we can stop for a refreshment. Soon after we off again into solitude as we follow a small river fringed by green grass growing. This place is home to many birds; you see many creatures - even storks. The camp is at the side of Lake Ouiouane.
Day 8 In the morning we ride through a cedar forest with a few oak trees here and there. A narrow path will take us to the village of Zaouat Ifran. This village is a true masterpiece. A small waterfall cascades from a height of 50 meters. The walls here are covered with many interesting kinds of plants and the caves behind the waterfall are home to the Berber monkey. A climb to small plateau up top offers incredible views of the area. After a picnic by the waterfall we cross the mountains to arrive on a tree lined path. We follow a small trail and arrive at a high plateau where we camp at the border of Lake Afnourir. This is a nature reservation where many kinds of birds live beside this secluded lake.
Day 9 A long canter over the lonely plain brings us to the cedarwoods. Slowly we climb down to the next plain where we encounter large herds of sheep eating. The villages are getting bigger and bigger, an indication of our return to civilization. We enjoy a picnic beside a river in the shade of bog trees before endless afternoon gallops bring up to the country of Mandar Ito, where with one hard climb up we reach our cars. After saying goodbye to our horses we transfer to Fes where we stay in the riad.
