Cuba has had a long tradition of using horses for riding and for urban and rural transport in the past. Nowadays, they are still widely used in the countryside to get from point A to B.
Hidden Trails offers several riding holidays across the country, so that you can learn more about the "real" Cuba!
Horses in Cuba:
Since 1990 and the break up of the socialist trading bloc, Cuba has faced problems relating to the cost and/or availability of fuel and spare parts for motor vehicles. This led to an increase in the use of horses for both rural and urban transport. Although some animals used for urban transport are thin, they are generally in good health, as Cubans really care for their horses.
On our
Western Cuba Ride, you will ride through Tobacco plantations and across the very scenic Sierra de los Organos. This region remains very wild, with good wildlife watching opportunities.
You can also explore the Eastern part of the country on the
Cuban Revolution Trail. This tour allows you to discover the most emblematic places of the Cuban Revolution, ride through the National Park of Sierra Maestra and visit the lovely colonial towns of this country.

Cuba Geography and Climate:
With pristine beaches, lush forest and vibrant cities all waiting to be explored, Cuba is more than a generic Caribbean island getaway.
Cuba is the largest Caribbean island, about the size of England, and the most westerly of the Greater Antilles group. The terrain of Cuba is mostly flat, but one-third of the country is mountainous.
Cuba has a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season starts in late November and lasts until mid-April, and the rainy season is from May to October.
The dry season is the best time to visit Cuba but it must be noted that rainfall does occur during the dry season - the sky will open up and rain gard for a few days a month.
Cuba is long and slender and climate avries slightly from one side to the other. Generally, the northwestern part of the country is a few degrees cooler than the southwestern part from December to March, when the cool are arrives from the North American continent.
