What to Bring for Mitre Peninsula Adventure


We provide:
- Two bags per person:
- One small saddlebag pp (approx. 10 l) for personal items
- One larger bag pp (approx. 30 l) for the rest of the luggage
- Double / triple tents.
- General kitchen equipment: cutlery, cups, pots etc.

Warm and waterproof outdoor clothing is crucial for your comfort during the expedition. Layers of clothing are most important and convenient due to changing weather conditions.
The list below mentions all ideal equipment for a comfortable trip, as the most important point is to stay dry and warm.
Please avoid using plastic ponchos due to windy conditions (however oilskin coat could be a good idea).

Based on our experience, the following equipment is needed:
  • Sleeping bag (not provided by operator). we recommend a sleeping bag with comfort temperature level of at least -10 degrees Celsius.

  • Waterproof leather boots or trekking shoes. Please note that footwear should be comfortable both for riding and walking.
  • Lightweight sneakers are perfect for the evening time.
  • At least 5 pairs of socks - in case your shoes get wet during river crossing.
  • Thermal underwear (tops and leggings), 2 sets. Cotton is not recommended as it absorbs moisture and it is difficult to dry.
  • Pants: waterproof/lightweight trekking trousers.
  • Waterproof /Windproof hooded jacket.
  • Additional warm layers (i.e. Soft-shell, fleece) are advised. Lightweight jacket for camping are ideal.
  • Gloves (at least 2 pairs - ideally one waterproof)
  • Sun hat
  • Warm hat
  • Riding helmet – we can also provide one for you
  • Sunglasses
  • Thermal neck scarf (buff)
  • Headlamp
  • Cosmetics – including sunblock and tissues.


Optional equipment:
  • Camera with spare batteries
  • Power bank
  • Towel - microfiber/quick dry
  • Any personal medications that you normally use in similar situations
  • Small amount of cash
  • Copy of ID card/Passport
  • Nylon or waterproof bags to secure your personal items
  • Small thermos (0,5 l – 1l) for personal use.

Please avoid taking too many unnecessary items as there is not a lot of space for luggage.
Each client, will be provided with bags for the equipment listed above.

Riding Level Explained
ABeginner
Beginner A rider who has limited experience, is unable to post the trot and does not canter.
BNovice
Novice A rider who is capable of mounting and dismounting unassisted, capable of applying basic aids, comfortable and in control at the walk, moderate length posting trots, and short canters.
CIntermediate
Intermediate A rider who has a firm seat, is confident and in control at all paces (including posting trots, two point canters and gallops), but does not ride regularly.
D Strong Intermediate
Strong Intermediate An intermediate rider who is currently riding regularly and is comfortable in the saddle for at least 6 hours per day.
EAdvanced
All of the above, plus an independent seat, soft hands, and capable of handlinga spirited horse in open country.
Lodging: Basic
Lodging Level Explained
   
= Facilities in lodges, estancias, haciendas, resorts, etc.
   
Basic lodging - some with shared bathroom facilities, usually no AC or room service.
Regular standard room - usually with private bath.
 Accommodations with superior comforts.
   
 = Trips with nights in tent camps. Sometimes the first and last night are in hotels.
   
Basic tent camping - everyone helps out with camp chores.
Regular standard with some camp amenities and camp cook.
Camping facilities with superior comforts like camp shower, bathroom facility..
   
 = Trips that combine nights in hotels and camping.
   
Basic accommodation and basic camping facilities can be expected.
