Croatia Climate & Weather
Croatia has a varied climate, with continental climate conditions inland and Mediterranean influence on the Adriatic coast. Peak season is July- August, with temperatures in the high 20s or in the 30s in places like Split, but you can expect plenty of sunshine from roughly May to October on the coast, and the shoulder seasons (May- June and September) are among he best times to visit Croatia. Inland is also hot in the summer but can be bitterly cold in the winter with sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall. Winter on the coast is milder but can be quite rainy.

Croatia
Travel restrictions As of July 1st, 2020, all EU/EEA nationals and individuals holding permanent residence in the EU/EEA countries can enter Croatia. All other foreign nationals may enter Croatia for business, tourism, or other pressing personal reasons, if they provide relevant proof. As of July 10th, 2020, visitors from third countries (outside the EU) arriving to Croatia for tourism, business, urgent personal reasons, or educational purposes must present a negative PCR test not older than 48 hours (starting from the time of taking the swab until arrival at the border crossing). If you have a test that is older than 48 hours, you will be allowed to enter Croatia, but will be issued a self-isolation order and will have to be tested again locally, at your own expense. Individuals who do not present a negative PCR test result upon arrival are subject to a mandatory 14-day self-isolation measure.
From December 1st 2020 to January 31st, 2021, the Croatian Government has prohibited all border crossings to protect the population from the COVID-19 disease. Exceptions to the border crossing ban are as follows:
- EU citizens, their family members, and EU residents coming directly from EU/EEA member states or regions.
- Travelers coming from countries currently covered by Annex I to EU Council Recommendation 2020/912 (namely Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Uruguay, China and special administrative regions of the People’s Republic of China – Hong Kong and Macao)
All other travelers from third countries are prohibited from entering Croatia with limited exceptions.
Measures taken by the government As of June 25th, 2020, wearing protective masks in public transportation throughout the country is mandatory. Starting from October 12th, it is mandatory to wear protective or surgical masks in all enclosed spaces where it is not possible to maintain a distance of 1.5 m. Effective December 12th, new measures for shops and shopping centers take effect, the measures additionally limits the number of customers or visitors that can be in the store or shopping center at the same time.
Due to the recent rise of COVID-19 cases, the following measures are in effect from November 28th 2020 to January 31st 2021. These measures may be revised or updated based on the evolving epidemiological situation:
- Individuals must maintain at least 2 meters of social distance indoors and at least 1.5 meters outdoors.
- All public events, gatherings, and celebrations must end at 10:00pm, including religious services.
- Private gatherings are limited to 10 people and must end at 10:00pm.
- Funerals are limited to 15 people, but physical contact must be avoided when offering condolences.
- No weddings.
- No sporting events except for category 1, 2, and 3 professional athletes. No spectators allowed and events must end at 10:00pm.
- All gyms, fitness centers, and sports and recreation facilities are closed.
- All hospitality services (restaurants, cafes, and bars) are closed. Hotels and camps may remain open but only for their guests.
- Catering and food delivery are allowed during normal working hours.
- Nightclubs and casinos are closed.
- Alcohol will not be sold from 10:00pm to 6:00am.
- No fairs and tourist events.
- No musicals, operas, or dance performances.
- No amateur sporting, cultural, or artistic events and practice sessions.
