Slower riding to due dense bush. About 4-6 hours in the saddle - 45 to 60 km daily - varies as the idea of the ride is to emphasize game viewing and scenery in remote areas.
Participants: Min 2 participants Max 6 participants

Riding Level
This ride caters to strong intermediate riders and above. Participants should be able to post to the trot for 10 minutes at a time and be able to canter with a secure seat, controlling the horse’s speed and direction at all times. In addition, prior experience in riding over rough terrain is required as we may cross steep valleys, river with seasonally strong current and dry riverbeds.
You need to be able to react to the movement of wildlife, which may startle the horse. You may also be required to gallop out of trouble.
At times, we will dismount and lead the horses. For this reason, riders need to have a fair general physical condition and need to be able to mount unassisted at any time.
It will be at the discretion of the company whether you will be permitted to ride, taking into consideration the safety and enjoyment of the group as a whole. So please do not over estimate your riding skills, as you will not receive a refund if you are denied.

Riding style
The riding style is “Endurance style”, probably most similar of a relaxed British/European leisure style. This means fairly long reigns, the horses will also respond to riding with one hand only (,neck reining‘ - as we assume that riders often need their other hand for making pictures. The ground can be uneven and in order to release the back of the horse we stay in “half seat” during trot or canter.

Pace & Riding Terrain
Arusha Park offers various landscapes, from dense mountain forest, lush glades, swamps with springs and rivers to savannah. The terrain can be steep, rocky, thorny or with holes and for this reason the predominant pace will be walk, with only few trot or canters for a change. The ride is still demanding, and riders need to manage riding up or down steep hills, as well as small jumps over rivers or logs, sometimes might need to jump off the horse so the horse can maneuver over or through a tricky passage. We spend 4 to 6 hours per day in the saddle.

The horses are much loved, well-mannered and in excellent condition. We have a variety of reliable, safari-purpose trained horses like Part bred Anglo-Arab, Thoroughbred, Trakehner, Bavarian Warmblood, Australian Brumby etc., ranging from 14 – 16.2 hands (140 – 165 cm) high. There is a horse to suit everyone. Forward and fast or solid and steady, let them know what you like!
Our safari horses have a good ´bush sense´ – constantly training as additionally to their training they roam 24/7 on huge pastures and paddocks with all sorts of different terrain.
The offspring starts early getting experience as they, from an early age, join their mothers on outrides on the farm and into the bush.

Every ride will be accompanied by one of the owners as guide and a back-up rider. They will be equipped with a GPS, first aid kit, mobile phone and radio-call.

Your hosts are experienced Veterinary Practitioners who care for the needs of the domestic and ‘wild’ creatures of the area and provide a constant warm welcome to two- and four-legged visitors alike.
They were both professional Endurance riders in the past.

Weight Limit
200 lbs (some exceptions for highly experienced riders). There is a specific maximum weight each horse can safely carry and it is for this reason that we will weigh riders before assigning their horse. Please note that the saddles available will fit riders of an average body mass index. Therefore, the relationship of size and weight matters and in some cases we might not be able to offer a riding trip even if the rider’s weight is below the required weight limit.

Travel Insurance
All guests are required to take out full medical and travel insurance including Flying Doctors Membership, details (e.g. membership number, emergency phone numbers) of which must be submitted prior to arrival. Please bear in mind that some insurance only cover you if a helmet was worn, in case of an injury. You can book the membership with one of the Flying-Doctor-Services through the internet.
Please note that in Tanzania, most things easily found in Europe or other countries are not readily available. This is especially true for medication and nothing at all is available whilst on safari in the middle of the African bush! Therefore it is advisable to bring with you a well stocked first aid kit which is suited to your own needs!
Possibly arrange a doctor's appointment to discuss any worries before you begin travelling.

Alternative itinerary for non-riding attendant can be arranged.

Child Policy
We will only take riders from over 15 years on our horseback safaris. They must be accompanied by a parent or their guardian. In exemptions we might take riders below our minimum age requirements on horseback-safaris, depending on size, fitness and riding abilities. There is no reduced rate, the rate will be the same as for adults.
