What to Bring for Arusha National Park Wilderness Ride

What to Bring
- A hard but well ventilated light-weight riding hat. However, wearing one is your responsibility but check with your insurance policy- you might lose your insurance cover if you don't wear a hard hat!
- A shade hat with strap
- Bush color riding clothes (not white or any bright color)**
- Riding trousers
- Light-weight riding shoes which are also comfortable for walking. Sometimes we will dismount and walk because the horses wneeds to be led over difficult terrain.
- Chaps, preferably long chaps to protect you from thorns (doesn’t have to be leather)
- Long sleeved shirts
- A jersey, fleece or multi pocketed waistcoat
- A lightweight, waterproof windbreaker jacket
- Torch or head lamp
- Sun block 50+, lip salve with sun blocker, insect repellent with tick prevention***
- Film, camera and binoculars on a strong shoulder strap, preferably in a (waterproof) pouch to be secured to belt.****

*For sun protection you should have a hat with a wide brim.

**Animals will react to white or bright (e.g. red) colors, so you should wear earth colors, such as sand, olive, browns, however dark blue or black are also ok, but might be hot.

***Game country is always tick country... make sure your insect repellent also protects you from ticks. Additionally we recommend you treat your clothes with a special repellent for clothes (e.g. from NoBite). Do this before you start your journey, the effect lasts for several weeks and it really makes a difference!

****There is no space on horse for you to put any heavy or big items such as a BIG camera. To carry it in a back pack is also unpractical as you never have it in your hand if you need it.
If you like to carry a camera then this has to go in a proper camera bag that protects the camera from dust and rain, at the same time it must be easily accessible, otherwise you’ll never get good pictures. Most practical are camera bags you can secure with a strong shoulder bag and additionally on your waist belt. Alternatively you may take a small camera (that easily goes in any pocket or on the waist belt) and keep the big camera in the back pack you send with the lunch vehicle.

Note: During safari ,in the bush‘ there is no electricity available! Make sure you have enough fully charged batteries or a full charged power bank for your

All the luggage is transported by support vehicle. There will be drinking water on the horse as well and you also should bring your rain jacket on every ride (this can be tied on the saddle). The remaining space after we packed drinking water may be used for a few, very small items, like sun screen.
