The soil is so fertile in this region, that even Opium is grown in small fields. It flowers between January and March, with many small white flowers.
We cross the small railway line connecting Barisadri with Mauvi once a week with a steam engine. Around here, the villages are much richer than anywhere else in Rajasthan due to the rich soil. Most farmhouses sport richly ornamented entry gates and even the bullock carts are made of carved wood.
We should arrive in Boheda around 4 pm. Today our safari camp is located near the village. Here our riders have the possibility to charge all electronic devices as we have plugs in our little farmhouse.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight camping near Boheda

Day 7: Sita-Mata Sanctuary
Today you will ride through the Sita-Mata Wildlife Sanctuary, a wild and untamed piece of land, home of the last leopards of this area.
It is situated far away from all touristic circuits and very few visitor find their way to this natural jewel. That is one of the reasons why it is the best place for sighting animals.
With some luck, we can observe cheetal and sambar deer, Nilgai antelopes, monkeys, gazelles, mongoose and many smaller animals and birds, including the majestic peacock, national bird of India.
Return to Boheda around late afternoon. If possible, a bullock cart ride through the village is arranged in the evening.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight camping near Boheda

Day 8: Ride to Parsoligarh
Another day ride through a fantastic countryside awaits!

Return to the plains in the afternoon and overnight stay in our safari camp near Boheda.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight camping near Boheda

Day 9: Boheda to Mangalwad
The last riding day leads the riders over a large plain, sometimes dotted with fields and villages, sometimes arid and empty. The soft level ground invites for long canters and gallops over the plain. Again and again Nilgai antelopes can be spotted, resting in the shade or grazing on the dry grass. Around late afternoon the riders reach the beautiful lake of Mangalwad where our safari camp is situated. Overnight stay in our camp near the lakeshore.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight camping near Mangalwad Lake

Day 10: Back to Udaipur
Return to Udaipur after breakfast. The day can be used to do some additional sightseeing or shopping. In the evening, the Indian festival of Holika Dahan will take place. The ceremony involves the symbolic burning of evil in form of a large statue of wood and straw. It marks the end of winter and the advent of spring. We take part in the century-old tradition in the City Palace of Udaipur. A once-in-lifetime experience!
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight stay at Hotel Boheda Palace in Udaipur

Day 11: Holi Celebration & Colour Festival
After breakfast, you can first have some glimpse of the festival from the roof terrace. In India, Holi is celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and fervour. People visit each other and put colour powder on each other. Then they exchange sweets and stay for a while to eat and drink together. The children love to play with water and colour. In some places there are parties with music, dance and water battles.
Our riders are always warmly welcomed to join in the festivities and parties. We first celebrate in the street close to the hotel and then we visit some of our friends and family. Here you can experience the Holi festival first hand. If you like to join in the wild partying you are welcome. But you can also just sit and watch it. Indian people also do both, not all of them take part in the crazy partying, but like to sit back and enjoy the sweets and chat with each other.
Afterwards we all go to our farm where we can wash off the colour and enjoy a late lunch. In the afternoon we can all rest a bit before returning to Udaipur. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 7: Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur
Start on your tour after breakfast and drive to the impressive Kumbhalgarh Fort, situated on one of the highest peaks of the Aravalli Mountains. The road trip through the Aravalli Mountains is spectacular with beautiful views of the countryside and the mountains. You will drive through small villages and wind yourself higher and higher up into the mountains. Arrival at the fort will be late morning. The Kumbhalgarh Fort it part of the World Heritage Site “Hill Forts of Rajasthan” and is truly impressive. The wall is the second-largest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China and surrounds a large area around the fort. During times of war, the Mewar state evacuated large parts of its population into the fort including plenty of animals. Like this they could withstand long sieges as the farmers would farm the area inside the fort and the animals would provide food for everybody. The fort houses several temples and the cloud palace, the residence of the royal family. You can walk all the way up to the roof of the palace and enjoy the spectacular view over the mountains. On clear days, you can view all the way to Marwar on the other side of the mountains. After visiting the fort, we transfer you to Ranakpur, at the foot of the Aravalli Mountains. The road winds its way down in narrow curves along steep slopes. On the way you can view the traditional way of water harvesting with Persian Water wheels. This system goes back around 2000 years and is still in use. With the help of oxen or buffalos, water is pumped into the fields. With some luck you can see it being used. In Ranakpur lunch is waiting for you and you can rest for a little while, before visiting the famous Jain Temple of Ranakpur. The main temple is 500 years old and consist of 1444 pillars of white marble, all artistically and differently carved and decorated. The temple is an important pilgrimage site for both Jains as well as Hindus and the idol is much revered. It is certainly one of the most beautiful temples in Southern Rajasthan and definitely worth a visit. Return to Udaipur afterwards and arrival there in the evening.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight stay at Hotel Boheda Palace in Udaipur

Day 8: Eklingji and Nagda Temples
After breakfast excursion to the Eklingji and Nagda Temples, around 20 km outside Udaipur. The temples are around 1000 years old and what is interesting is the difference between them. While the Nagda or Sas-Bahu Temples are an archaeological site and well-known for their erotic stone carvings and serene location at the shore of a lake, the Eklingji temple is a famous Hindu pilgrimage site. Here devotees come and worship the whole day long. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant and it is interesting to stop and watch the devotion for some time. Return to Udaipur in the early afternoon. Lunch will be served at the roof terrace and for those interested in Indian food, we offer a cooking lesson in the late afternoon. Otherwise, the afternoon can be used for some relaxation or shopping.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight stay at Hotel Boheda Palace in Udaipur

The Chittorgarh Fort was once the capital city of the Mewar State (before Udaipur became capital in 1568). Chittorgarh is one of the most impressive and largest fortresses of North India and part of the World Heritage Site “Hill Forts of Rajasthan”. Three times in history Chittorgarh was besieged and conquered and finally abandoned in favour of Udaipur. Inside the fort there are a number of palaces of different periods and times, besides temples, water reservoirs and monuments. The view from the ramparts are amazing. After visiting Chittorgarh, the participants can join the riders in the safari camp and stay for dinner and overnight.
