Itinerary for Zambezi Horse, Canoe, and Rhino Safari

Sample Itinerary: 8-day Program - subject to changes

Note: We may choose to vary the order and type of camps used, most especially to take advantage of game movement. Please note that any variation in route or camps will be only to increase the value and quality of the safari and always in the client’s best interest. Cost and content of the safari will remain the same.
On any day and at any camp there are plenty of opportunities for game viewing, and each day’s riding includes a wide variety of magnificent scenery.

Day 1: Arrival
A representative from Ursula’s Homestead will meet you at Victoria Falls Airport and transfer you to Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve. After settling in and lunch, we will meet you for your afternoon ride. A safety talk and pre trip briefing will see us on our way for the start of your adventure here. This afternoon will be your first introduction to this area and a chance to see if you are happy with your horse, your saddle and so on.
Our ride will end at the stables at sunset. A short drive through the reserve will take us back to the Homestead.
Meals included: None
Overnight at Ursula’s Homestead

Day 2: Game Ride in Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve
We will be up and on our horses as the sun rises, to spend the morning in the saddle. Exactly where we go will depend on our inclination and game movement. Tracks and territorial markings will put us on the trail of rhino, giraffe and other species. You will learn how to identify and age feeding signs and other marks as you and your horse become part of the environment. And of course there are long canters, rivers to play in – a world to enjoy.
The late morning will see us back at the Homestead for a break and a chance to relax by the pool watching wildlife at the waterhole in front of the camp.
The afternoon and evening will be spent in this private game reserve exploring areas we may not have reached on horseback. Sundowners will be served at the dam, before returning to the Homestead.
Meals included: Breakfast
Overnight at Ursula’s Homestead

Day 3: Ride around Ursula's Homestead
Sunrise start again today for another fabulous ride as we range farther afield: long canters will take us to new areas to look for more animals or just explore.
The afternoon may be spent relaxing by the pool or on a shorter late afternoon ride.
Meals included: Breakfast
Overnight at Ursula’s Homestead

Day 4: Game Ride
Today will find us on a longer ride, possibly to learn about the art of tracking and how an equestrian anti-poaching patrol works. Off the reserve you will learn how to record data, assess herds and recognise signs. Or we will just ride!
The afternoon will see us back at Ursula’s Homestead to ‘debrief’ or just discuss the days adventures.
Meals included: Breakfast & Picnic Lunch
Overnight at Ursula’s Homestead

Day 5: Victoria Falls
This morning you can relax: have breakfast in the gardens, watch game on the vlei or lie by the pool. We will then transfer into town to view Victoria Falls itself and maybe do some curio shopping.
In the afternoon, you will transfer to the Zambezi River for the start of your overnight canoe adventure (minimal luggage – the rest will meet you at your Victoria Falls Lodge).
Clients are collected at 4.00pm. Take an hour and a half game drive (25km) into the Zambezi National Park in an open vehicle to arrive the riverside camp before sunset, for dinner and drinks.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight at Camp near Zambezi River

Day 6: Canoe Adventure & Ride to Victoria Falls
You start the day with a full English breakfast and prepare for a full day spent canoeing (18kms) downstream, running small grade one and two rapids, exploring channels, bird and game viewing. The Kandahar Rapids are run on this day. A picnic lunch is served on the mainland or an island.
Your canoeing safari will end in Zambezi National Park where you will meet the horses and ride from there through the park to Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. In case of hotter weather, you will transfer there by vehicle and the horses will meet you there.
Meals included: Breakfast
Overnight at Victoria Falls Lodge

Day 7: Last Ride
Today, we will ride from the lodge directly into the National Park itself. Our starting time is entirely up to you. Our ride will end at 10.00am or thereabouts and your transfer to Imbabala will collect you at approximately 11.00am
Staying at the Imbabala Safari Lodge is an unspoilt wilderness experience, on the banks of the Zambezi. Imbabala was originally built in 1987 and first opened in 1988. Despite being completely refurbished over the years, Imbabala is still a small unpretentious safari camp offering a true "African Safari Experience". Experienced guides are on hand for all activities which centre on tracking game on morning, afternoon and night game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles. Exploring the Zambezi River by boat affords guests an exclusive river experience Bird-watching is exceptional, as birdlife is prolific and varied, ranging from water birds to shy forest dwellers.
Here, at Imbabala, your time will be spent on game drives and river safaris, even venturing out after dinner to look for lion and hyena from the safety of your Guides jeep.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Overnight at Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge

Day 8: Departure
After your early morning game drive followed by brunch, you will leave Imbabala at 10:30am for your transfer to your outgoing flight or onward.
Meals included: Brunch

About the Canoe Overnight trip:
The majority of people who join this trip are first time canoeists. No previous experience is required as staff are specially trained to prepare and guide you through the day. Children can canoe if accompanied by a parent and will fit a lifejacket securely. Management retain the right to refuse a child who they feel is unsuitable for the activity for any reason.
All canoe trips are run in self-paddle two-man inflatable canoes. Space is limited; we suggest one carry bag per person.
