• Galapagos Islands Description

The yacht anchors off shore at two sites per day. The sailors transfer passengers from the yacht to the landing sites in “pangas” (dinghies). These landings can be “wet” or “dry”. At the dry landings you step directly onto rock. At wet landings you will step from the panga into water and wade to shore. The guide and sailor are there to assist you at all landings.

Once on shore, you will follow marked trails set up by the National Park. Your guide will lead these excursions, interpreting and explaining the natural history as you walk along. The shore visits are done at a leisurely pace, allowing plenty of time to enjoy and photograph the amazing wildlife and scenery. You will spend 2 – 3 hours at each site. There is either before or after the afternoon visit.

Seasons
You will be in a sunny year round destination; the warmest months are from December to April. January to March can be hot and humid, but also mostly green at this time. The months from July to November are cooler. The average year-round temperature is 24°C. (76°F).

Galapagos Dry Season (June to December)
From June to December the southern trade winds bring the colder Humboldt Current north to the Galapagos. This means that the water is cooler, and a layer of high atmosphere mist pervades the island skies. In effect, the highlands of the larger islands are kept green and lush while the sea level islands and shorelines have little precipitation. Thus, June to December is generally called the "dry season" which is known for its blue skies and mid-day showers.
During this season the tourists may observe a large number of species around the islands and in the sea such as giant tortoises, humpback whales, blue-footed boobies, cormorants, oyster catchers, lava lizards, Galapagos hawks, masked boobies, swallow-tailed gulls, sea lions, lava herons, brown noddies, and penguins. Due to the water temperature, it is the perfect time for diving.

Galapagos Wet Season (December to May)
This period is considered the "wet (warm) season." During this warmer season, the Galapagos' climate is more tropical with daily rain and cloudier skies. Also, the ocean temperature is warmer for swimming and snorkeling
During this season the tourists may observe a large number of species around the islands such as marine iguanas, sea turtle, land iguanas, flamingos, white-cheeked pintails, masked boobies, marine iguanas, albatross, and blue-footed boobies. Since the water's warmer, snorkeling is highly recommended during these months.


Special note - Galapagos Weather for Divers
The Humboldt Current's influence brings cold waters especially during the misty, rainy season (cool weather) from July to December. "El Niño" current may bring warm waters to the Galapagos and will make the surface warmer and rainfall increase (January to June).
The water temperature varies during the year:
January to June: from 70°F (21°C) to 80°F (27°C)
July to December: from 65°F (18°C) to 75°F (23°C)

We recommend to bring the following items for your cruise:

• Shorts
• T-shirts
• A windbreaker or light sweater for the evenings
• Hat
• Lots of sunscreen
• Hiking boots/shoes
• Sneakers
• Tevas/sandals with security straps
• Sunglasses (with strap)
• An extra pair of prescription glasses (if needed)
• Small water bottle
• Small backpack (for your camera, film, etc)
• Plastic bag to keep your camera or photographic equipment dry
• Camera and/or video equipment and plenty of film
• Snorkeling gear (not essential)*
• Duffel bag with a lock
• Medications (anything you might be using while your cruise)
• Motion sickness medication (if you are prone to sea sickness)
• Books to read while on the yacht
• Binocular
• Insect repellent

Due to the cabin sizes on the yachts and the weight restrictions that airlines enforce, the amount of luggage you can bring on the boat is limited.

Before each excursion ask the guide if you will swim or go snorkeling in order to take a towel with you.

The water around the Galapagos is generally calm however it can get rough when the cold Humboldt Current arrives in July through September. If you are prone to seasickness we suggest you contact your physician prior to departure and ask whether medication, patches or wristbands would work best for you.

SNORKELING
On board we have masks, snorkels and fins available, at no extra fee. Please make sure to rinse mask, snorkel and fins in fresh water after each use.
Snorkeling is a highlight that can be enjoyed almost daily, sometimes twice a day.

SALOON SERVICE
We have some Galapagos books, music and videos available for guests. There will be a replacement fee charged for any Galapagos book not returned by the end of the cruise.

Accommodations
All nights of this trip are spent on the Nemo III.

Each cabin is equipped with air conditioning, a shower (hot and cold water) and ensuite facilities.
The cabins are cleaned every morning. Towels and sheets are changed 3 times per week.

It is necessary to try to manage the consumption of electricity. Please make wise use of the lights and ventilator.
There are 110V electrical outlets in the cabins using the North American style plugs, with two flat blade prongs. If you are planning on taking a video or digital camera we suggest you take an extra set of charged batteries.

Guests can relax in the Jacuzzi located on the sundeck.

Room occupancy
Some cabins are reserved for single travelers (single supplement fee applies).
Single passengers are allowed to book a double cabin on sharing basis with same sex person.



Meals
All meals are included during the cruise.

The vessel is equipped with one dinning room.

We make all possible efforts to provide fresh products to you. Please remember that you are in a boat with space limitations. Beside, we bring fresh food from the continent, and we are restricted by cargo space and regulations.

Some times the conditions of navigation can change the hour of the service.
On special itineraries, your guide might ask that meal times be changed.

Purified drinking water is available on board and a refillable water bottle is provided.

BAR SERVICE 
A variety of soft drinks, beer and liquors can be purchased onboard. The barman will open a consumption card for you - please sign it every time you request a drink in order to avoid misunderstandings when your bill is presented at the end of your cruise.

Note: Due to the fact that there is a bar on board, we request to not bring wine or liquor aboard.
